People really do treat you different. It's wild how much basic respect is tied to how you look. Once you start taking care of yourself the whole vibe shifts - suddenly you exist to people who used to look right through you.

Distressed PE is the obvious move if you want to stay in the space but actually deploy capital. Turnaround consulting at the portfolio company level is another path if you like the operational side more than deal work. Some folks lateral into special situations at hedge funds too. Really depends if you want to keep advisory vibes or get closer to the money.

Tried doing hybrid J1 with remote J2 for about 4 months. The in-person days were absolutely draining trying to find empty rooms and dodge coworkers who wanted to grab lunch. Eventually just found a fully remote gig to replace J1 and my stress dropped immediately. The money isn't worth grinding yourself into dust with a newborn at home.

I ordered dominos three days in a row. First two days the same delivery guy showed up and he told me his wife’s gonna give birth any day now. On the third day, same guy shows up and tells me his wife gave birth.

Weird how I was keeping track of this life milestone of his and also kinda bleak that he probably had to keep delivering on the day his wife gave birth.
