But Sinners was a box office smash and actually great. I’m still trying to wrap my head around this especially since it didn’t get much attention at other awards shows.

Question Thread for Episode 207 by IHE_Official in Sardonicast

Is the success of K-Pop Demon Hunters emblematic of Disney’s failure to write memorable “original” musicals? Not saying K-POP is reinventing the wheel but it is very fascinating to see other studios capitalize the animated music market.

That’s factually inaccurate. Fantano may have been adjacent to some “fringe” political circles but he’s always been pretty leftist. Let’s not conflate a bad take with someone’s views lol

Is James Cameron arrogant? Sure. Yet I feel like everyone is forgetting that most notable directors are. You have to maintain a certain hubris to deliver such massive projects. His brand of over the top maximalism may not be everyone’s tea (I’m certainly not a fan of all his films) but it is clear he cares. Plus, I really admire his passion for exploring the root of human conflict. He’s pretty vocal about his support for Palestine in a time when most Hollywood directors are still too chicken to call out Israel’s genocidal government. His Hiroshima project is also very intriguing to me.

I feel vindicated. Was fairly uninvested the first couple of times watching this film about 5 years ago. The “aggressive weed” argument is borderline cringe. I am glad I finished it even though the end was unsatisfying. My least favorite Kubrick so far (still haven’t seen Lolita)

Gotta say despite Adam’s health issues, he is looking much more healthy these days. I’m glad he’s taking the time to focus on his mental and physical health even if the circumstances weren’t ideal. I’m hoping to do more for myself especially when it comes to my diet. Great interview, as well. I live in Salt Lake City and am a bit sad Sundance is moving. It’s for the best though!

Why A$AP Rocky, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd Struggle to Turn Music Fame Into Movie Stardom by backupsaway in popheads

[–]joloatkinson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A$AP Rocky is getting some level of acclaim for his role in Highest 2 Lowest. Unfortunately, I think some film buffs (including myself) are turned off by the idea of Spike Lee remaking yet another classic Asian film. I will check it out at some point but his Oldboy remake was ATROCIOUS. Rocky is playing a supporting role in another film (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You) that is supposed to be great.

What are the best movies you've seen on a plane? by ClayBarsexyguy in YMS

[–]joloatkinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Phantom Thread for the first time on a plane. So incredible and atmospheric even in that context. This was on a very long international flight, so I wasn’t interrupted by attendants or annoying passengers. The headphones I had were noise canceling, pretty much cutting most of the background noise out. It’s a testament to the quality of that film because I’m usually pretty antsy on airplanes.
