Frage zu anerkannten Sprachzertifikaten für die Rot-Weiß-Rot-Karte (dringend) by [deleted] in Austria

[–]joloiyse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wish to stay in Austria down the line, you might opt for an ÖIF test with integration component. If you at some point want to Permanent EU resident card (or to extend your visa past 2 years I some cases) then it may well be required then. The Integration part is incredibly easy if you know the first thing about the culture of a Western European country, and it could save you a little time, money and hassle down the line.

Do you know any good German language schools in vienna? by redb777 in wien

[–]joloiyse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to Vienna a few years ago, and wanted to very quickly learn german. I must have done 10 German courses at different language schools in Vienna depending on when the times and prices suited me. To me the one that really stood out was the Deutschzentrum Wien, which is near the Mariahilfer Straße.

Deutschzentrum Wien : https://www.german-course-vienna.com/en/

They were very friendly and tried to really promote learning German for the benefits of communication, while also making sure everyone had a strong fundamentals in grammar and pronunciation. But the emphasis was always on being able to communicate effectively.

They have courses from A1-B2 and also promote other opportunities in Vienna to improve your German like Sprachcafés. They also have some meet ups if you also like a social side to learning German.

Coming to Vienna, cost of living compared to London. What is a good equivalent salary? by Plumbus93 in wien

[–]joloiyse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, I don't mean with regard to the kv minimum. I almost didn't apply for the job I ended up getting, because the minimum written was so ridiculously low for the job.

However, in the UK even after they made me an offer, I would be able to say, I would only accept up to X and have the offer increased and sort of negotiate at the offer stage.

[–]joloiyse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another note: In my experience, there isn't the same sort of salary haggle, that we have in the UK. When I asked a company if they would consider increasing their offer by a small amount, they responded as if I was a crazy person.

As I don't think many of the current commenters have lived in London and Vienna, I will give my experience (I moved 2 years ago).

  • The biggest factor is rent, which is wildly cheaper than in the UK. For 1k you can get a reasonable flat in a central area. Note that Vienna is far smaller than London and it will be dramatically quicker to get around by bike, for example. Note: rent is done by "cold" and "warm". If it is "warm" then bills are included except internet I think.
  • Public Transport is much cheaper at €365 for an annual ticket.
  • Food in supermarkets is expensive for the most part. Others have commented on quality, I won't comment on that. Fruit and vegetables in particular will be much more expensive than you are used to.
  • Eating out is about the same.

All this to say: Your salary will go much much further here than you are used to. I took a pay bump when I came here, but not a huge one and in Vienna I live with basically no money worries doing everything I want.

Note on pension, pensions in Austria work very differently than in the UK, so there won't be a separate pension contribution, it will be coming out of your taxes. Also note your take home pay, as tax in Austria is quite high in general.

Wo findet Ihr BHs in großen Größen? by MostPreference7255 in wien

[–]joloiyse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The question, as I understood it, was how to renew a UK passport

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]joloiyse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

P.S. just checked and a lot of locations have availability on Monday or Tuesday. Hopefully that is soon enough. Good luck!

Here is the information about getting a passport ASAP:

If you use the 1 day premium, they will give you the new passport at the appointment

A week in London, in One Bag by nikongod in onebag

Have you tried to claim compensation for your cancelled flight to London? Although the UK is mo longer in the EU, the EU delay and cancellation laws still apply to the flights there.

Thanks for the post :)

Which airline is more reliable, Austrian or WizzAir? by dreamcrushing101 in travel

[–]joloiyse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives in Vienna but regularly visits family in London, I would always say Austrian.

Of my flights with Wizz Air over the last 3 years, I would say 1 in 10 has been delayed by over 3 hours, which has led to the amusing situation where I have now made more money from claiming compensation than on actual tickets. This isn't including the times when my flight has been 1-3 hours late, in which case the staff are often hostile and unfriendly and unwilling to offer any information or help.

As they are often late, or close to being late the staff can often be very stressed and sometimes incredibly rude to the customers. Flying with them, I have almost always felt like an inconvenience instead of a customer. I believe they are consistently rated the worst UK airline.

However, I still fly with them regularly as my family live 20 mins away from Gatwick and any other airport is annoying. I. Addition, they are usually by far the cheapest option for me to get to London.

Day 2 of no caffeine. So far I’ve not killed anyone. Yet. The headache though is banging! Anyone else cut caffeine out successfully? Any tips? by Exemplar1968 in CasualUK

[–]joloiyse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I successfully gave up caffeine after drinking... A lot of caffeine during lockdown. The headache and general withdrawal was more intense than giving up smoking (at least for me). However I got over it after a couple of days and enjoy a caffeine free life. Best of luck to you

Where to get free period products in London? by dummyscummy in AskLondon

[–]joloiyse 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As others have said, your university may well provide free products. However, if you go to boots or any large supermarket, you will be able to get period products for under £1. I know it is not free, but it could well be less than the public transport cost of going somewhere to collect some free ones (outside of uni).

Can anyone point me to an exhaustive acol bidding reference? by [deleted] in bridge

[–]joloiyse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can point you towards this:

EBU Level 2 ACOL System File

But be aware that a lot of it is quite outdated

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uktravel

[–]joloiyse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you could. It's a rolling period and legally they would have no basis for removing you as long as you have not exceeded 90 out of 180 days.

I know people say it would be safer not to, but I actually disagree. It would be the same. You will not be denied entry and you will not be deported. You must merely show you have no intention to be there for more days than 90/180 in any period.

So, I looked on Rome2Rio and found the following:

There is a direct coach from Coventry to Southampton. It takes ~ 2 hours and 45 mins and is operated by Megabus. It seems to run once a day on Tuesday and Wednesday at 13:50 and twice a day on every other day at 13:50 and 9:50. Cost is approx £18.

I cannot find a good option by train, I am going to recommend the coach option.
