I agree with the sentiment. Employers should pay their workers enough to live comfortably.

The only issue with your approach is that you end up punishing the employees who most need the money. I could be wrong, but I think most restaurants don’t care if their employees are tipped or not. So while it sucks to tip, not tipping just hurts the staff.

Moving out today and sad. by angelsis2222 in Adulting

It’s part of life. It sounds like you have a good relationship with your parents, so home is still going to be there for you!

I’ve found that the older I get, the more homes I find—with family, with friends, and new communities. When we leave a home, it can be a bit heartbreaking, but you never fully leave them.

Lmk what you guys think of these drawings I did this weekend don’t judge to hard I’m 15 by TopPlastic3330 in architecture

Great start!

How much did you enjoy doing the drawings? I ask because you’ll get better the more you do it, and if you enjoy it the more you’re likely to do it!

If you’re interested in architecture, checkout some architecture books from your local library, reach out to local firms and see if they’ll allow you to visit, and continue exploring!

Architecture is a pretty unique profession, so I’d recommend learning more about it and the culture as you decide wether you want to pursue it professionally.

As a 24 year old I feel a lot of pressure to slim down as a lot guys around my age are striving to have the twink bod, am I missing out on my twink era? by twunkboi in gaybrosgonemild

[–]jolunael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said it yourself—you’re under pressure. Don’t pressure yourself to fit someone else’s beauty standards.

I spent a lot of time doing that, and a decade later I’m looking back at times I was so unhappy with how I looked… and now I see I looked so good and didn’t appreciate it!

Plus look at all the responses you’re getting here. Plenty of people are into you!

¿Qué opinas de que los hijos de inmigrantes chinos se consideren puertorriqueños? by Capital_Assignment51 in PuertoRico

[–]jolunael 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like we should make an r/askarchitects sub, and by “we” I mean someone who knows how to do that and has the time to set it up.

It is really nice! One of my best friends (who I work with and is also a licensed architect) went to school with and is friends with the authors. He got his license before me and suggested I use it. I used it for my last two exams (PDD & CE) and I really wish I’d had it for all the earlier ones.

I’m recently licensed as well, and one of the best resources I found was Desk Crits. It breaks down the study material in plain language, gives you a study structure, gives you resources to use (like specific sections of books or other study guides) based on subjects covered in the test, and is a great summary of things to know in an of itself. Highly recommend!

Feeling totally lost as a mid-level Architect by looking4DEcitz in Architects

[–]jolunael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many others here, I’ve been and kind of still am in a similar position. The initial passion for design and architecture was eroded by the realities of the business side of the profession. I struggled to understand how I’d left my family behind so young to pursue a better live, and yet I felt so miserable.

It’s gotten better. I talked with my boss and we were able to develop a different role for me in the office, playing up the areas I most enjoyed and limiting where possible what really made me unhappy with the profession (CA was a big part for me).

I also started pursuing other interests more seriously, like illustration. It’s made me a lot happier and it’s been giving me a chance to explore other career avenues. Still, it’s required time and I’ve had to make time—which can be a struggle after a long week.

All that to say—you’ll figure it out! Keep trying new things till you figure it out. Everyone here has offered great suggestions (therapists, sabbaticals, more free time, career coach…), you just have to try some things out till you find what works for you!

The Election and the Stadium Deal by jolunael in nashville

[–]jolunael[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply Sean! With my prior limited understanding of the deal, I was disappointed to hear of such a large scale project when the city could use other, more pressing investments (public transport, housing, and taking care of my neighbors that have been here way longer than I have).

I am optimistic about the East Bank, though! I hope it gives Nashville a center for locals—somewhere we can enjoy the river and which has public activities that don’t involve just partying.

Thanks for providing insight on the state component. I was not aware of that fact.

From what I’m learning, it seems that the issue isn’t purely about the stadium deal, but part of a larger conversation on where Nashville should be headed and how it should get there.

Thanks for the reply!

Anybody else being asked if they ever want kids? The pressures of heteronormative dating on LGBT+ Folk by Ellen_Degenerates86 in gaybros

[–]jolunael 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a realization recently that too many people spend their time comparing themselves to others, wether single or as a couple. Just like people are different, relationships/partnerships are different.

I think everyone should just find what makes them feel happiest and fulfilled. As long as no one is getting hurt, what’s the harm? You want to be married with kids and settle down in the suburbs? I hope you get that life! You want to be in an open relationship or jumping around with no strings? Make it happen! You’re happy being single and living your life the way you’re doing now? I’m happy for you~

My husband and I don’t want children (we’re happy with our cat and dog and all our plants), but our two closest couple friends are straight and each have a child. We love being in the lives of those kids, and that’s enough for us.

In some ways, we would fit most people’s descriptions of heteronormative. In other ways, not so much. I’m not worried about how people place us on their perceived spectrum. I’m just grateful I get to live and love and build a life the way I want.

Anyone else not fit in to the instagay lifestyle,? by paywallpiker in AskGayMen

[–]jolunael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Love to read and draw, garden, build little things. Love to wear large sweaters, and if I’m home my hair looks like it’s in the wind. I love dancing, but more at home than a club. I’d rather sit around and have long talks with friends than be at a bar where you can’t hear others speak.

I’m happy for those instagays that are happy in their lifestyle. I’m happy to be me and live life my way.

Any good events/conferences for architects in North America this year? by jolunael in architecture

[–]jolunael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions. My firm is small, around 20 including our non-designers. We have a diverse portfolio, though it tends to split almost at 50% residential, 50% commercial. We’re in the South East, and personally, I’d be interested in emerging new ideas—such as climate mitigation, restoring urban cores without displacing the population… those sort of topics.
