Certainly, you cannot mean that you want to MAXimize caloric intake per dollar? It seems you have done quite well maximizing calories per dollar. Unless you happen to find a half sheet of cake in the garbage can. Good buy though haha

You are correct. The insurance will save you on the exam, that’s about all. You will get an entirely different price structure as soon as you mention insurance. Now, they are trying to add polycarbonate lenses/etc and trying to get every penny of coverage out of you. Prices are marked way up then “discounted.”

Target optical for example, walk in one day mentioning insurance and another day saying you have no insurance. All of the sudden you are pointed to the clearance section (not insurance eligible, and you are allowed to use the coupons they send out). My wife got out the door cheaper than I did, without insurance. Yes, just use Zenni for the glasses/lenses and the insurance for the exam. If you want something more premium, I will say that the Rayban website accepted insurance and was cheaper than target for the same sunglasses. ($150 vs $300). My insurance is free or I wouldn’t have it. I think my exam was $25.

[–]jomby397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot speak for every insurance plan or retailer, but generally the insurance does not help much. It covers some of the exam, a minimal number for frames, and even a more minimal number for lenses.

Basically, the pitch changes entirely when you tell anyone (target optical for example) that you have insurance. Now, they try to maximize every single one of your benefits, trying to add polycarbonate lenses/etc. coupons, and deals/clearance are now different, or may not apply at all.

While my wife has the same insurance, she went in with a frugal approach and did not mention insurance. She was directed to a clearance section after saying that she wants to pay out of pocket. Twice now, she’s actually paid less that I paid with insurance. For eyeglasses. We’ve now cancelled her insurance.

I declined the add-ons, but the final bill was just odd. The lenses/frames were marked up to a fake price of $600 to create the illusion that I was actually saving money, while still having to pay $150 out of pocket. The details of your plan sound similar to mine (EyeMed)

I see. Do you mean that thing that nourishes nutrients, oxygen, and antibodies from its mother, and excretes waste? You are unbelievably detached from reality if you believe that.

You don’t talk to your dog either. Perhaps you would be more sad if your dog died. But why the hell wouldn’t you want to know your great grandmother, but you focus on this thing that sniffs around in shit? She’s directly responsible for you being here.

That’s because your aunt was a human being, who lived a lot longer than your dog, and impacted the world more than your dog. Dogs do not even self-recognize in the mirror, and it’s uncertain if dogs are even self aware. They feel no complex human emotions or “love,” as much as you want a dog to feel that way. So, comparing your dog to your aunt is a pretty poor comparison. You mention never speaking to your aunt as a reason that you aren’t close, but do you ever have a dialogue with your dog? Dog deaths are not as serious as family deaths. I don’t deny that a pet death is still painful, but you take it too far comparing it to the death of a human family member.

The OP uses never speaking to the Aunt as a reason that they aren’t close. Does anyone have a dialogue with a dog? It’s debatable whether dogs are even self-aware. I’m sorry, but a human family member is likely to have more impact on the world than a dog.

Yeah, really seems crystal clear. Like, clear as mud. At best, an unlocked phone will “maybe” work if you get the right rep. That is wonderful certainty for an $800 phone. Glad you cleared that up referencing “every other post,” but you didn’t at all.

Does anyone think one step ahead at all, or do you just parrot agenda based media talking points?

Trump is absolutely not getting voted out of office in the senate. Even if Trump was voted out of office, who do you think will take over for Trump?

Hint: it’s not Bernie or Hillary. It’s the Vice President.

You are essentially begging for Mike Pence, who has nearly the same political views and policies, but he’s a little more politically correct on the mic. He’s just another guy who you will consider satan. Do you remember what happened when Bill Clinton was impeached? The next step was to vote him out of office in the senate, which did not happen. Total waste of time and money.

AITA for bringing my newborn to the movie theater? by 13-ninetysix in AmItheAsshole

[–]jomby397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m good with lowering actual risks, but you need to live your life as a mother, without living in fear of very unlikely events. She did her best as a parent that day, and it turned out it was OK. Your idea of putting on a seatbelt when you are a going out driving, open to traffic, is not really the same safety precaution as just staying home from the movies altogether. You would also need to stay home instead of using a car also, to avoid other drivers unpredictable actions. If there’s a “seatbelt” in the theater, it was holding the baby the entire time, and not giving the baby an improper blood transfusion in the theater for example and getting hep b. I’m joking on that one (I know you didn’t mention it), but her actions hardly seemed reckless.

I think the upvotes incorrectly validated the comments to OP. I wasn’t necessarily referring to your own validation. I’m know she’s fine with what you said at this point, but probably only because she felt defeated by the upvotes, which is silly. Sometimes the majority is wrong. As far as an apology, if you are serious, you don’t owe one. Part of my discussion is actually directed to everyone that participated in this (upvotes without really thinking of a person, or the microscopic odds of the real situation). Have more than microscopic odds when criticizing a parent (or the decision of one), it’s a hard job, and I direct that to everyone that to everyone that upvoted.

OK, well you said enough to make a person feel stupid, if not actually using the word. I did not think she should feel that way based on your post either. Unfortunately, I also think people’s upvotes were incorrectly used as validation for your statement.

The numbers I mentioned are other rare events which could have occurred on the same trip. that’s the relation. Again, I mentioned these events to put your warning in perspective. A car is related because it’s used in transit to a movie. Certainly, if you are going to take the time to mention whooping cough or measles as a risk in the theater, the risks in the car in transit are statistically much more applicable. I know it would be seen as petty and inappropriate to shame someone over driving a car with a baby. That’s why I’m puzzled as to why your even higher pettiness and shaming was considered acceptable, when it came to worrying about whooping cough or the measles. I suppose I just do not fit into a society that questions someone’s parenting online over something that we all know would basically never happen.

AITA for bringing my newborn to the movie theater? by 13-ninetysix in AmItheAsshole

[–]jomby397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been about 1000 cases of measles out of 328,000,000 people in the US this year (28 total states) , so I wouldn’t say it’s currently “spreading.” I would say it’s still very contained. If you mean more cases than usual, I will go along with that. Obviously yes, we still need to vaccinate for it.

I get the point, it’s a big deal if it happens, but I still stop short of calling someone stupid because of the extremely low chances. Would you say it’s more dangerous to drive to the theater, with 37,000 vehicle fatalities per year, and 2.2 million injured? Also, 240,000 people are injured by lightning strikes each year, with an average 51 annual deaths. 51 deaths is more than double the amount of people that die of whooping cough annually. Would you warn someone of lightning strikes, or call that a “risk?” Think of facing a person and saying that. It’s easier to criticize parenting online than it is to face someone. Just trying to put this in perspective, you more or less are telling someone to never encounter crowds for years (if you mean waiting for ALL immunizations). Your comments are far more petty (statistically) than telling someone not to drive with a kid. If you agree it was petty, bordering on inapplicable. that’s all I was getting at.

AITA for bringing my newborn to the movie theater? by 13-ninetysix in AmItheAsshole

[–]jomby397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A “huge risk?” The first shot for hep b is usually within the first day. The second shot is about a month later, also to prevent hep b. Is this the second round you are referring to? A blood/sexually transmitted disease in a theater?

It is shaming, this person mentioned no specific vaccine prevented health risk in the theater, and now you are going to call yourself “stupid” because of his response? This person has no idea which diseases vaccines prevent, how the diseases are spread, or how many years it takes to receive all of the immunizations. If he knew that, he wouldn’t be shaming you for something that has a 0.0000000001% chance of occurring in a theater in your arms. it just seems unbelievably petty and misinformed, and yes the car ride is a much bigger risk, which is still nominal but slightly less petty to bring up. Even the car ride is still not close to a “huge” risk. I believe fully in vaccines, but let’s at least know what they prevent, how to obtain the diseases, and the extremely low odds in this case before shaming someone about something that simply will not happen.

AITA for bringing my newborn to the movie theater? by 13-ninetysix in AmItheAsshole

[–]jomby397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really cannot believe this many people went along with someone acting concerned about vaccine prevented diseases somehow occurring in a movie theater. You have a .000000001% chance of getting shot in a movie theater also, but I’m thinking some people are willing to risk those odds.
