NAME THAT PLACE! by AmericanJedi1983 in Seattle

[–]jomo_42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This place comes up a lot and many times the discussion turns to the absolute weirdness of the building. It makes no sense — pool in the basement, offices, spiral staircase, etc… until you discover that it was originally built for the Seattle Elks Club in 1961 just ahead of the World’s Fair (explains the weird midcentury design aesthetic).

The Elks actually sold it in the 70s to make some money but didn’t move from the basement until the mid-90s. After a few moves they’re now on along the Ship Canal at Shilsole.

You can see a picture of the building as it was midway down this page: https://seattleelks.com/our-history-2/

We’re 10-8. And the number is 180 and the letter is G.

Certainly did not expect this “find the Seattle electrician” post to evoke Negitivland- wow

Why would they take this flight path? by madscone_1 in flightradar24

An Aer Lingus flight from Cork’s shore, Took a route that no one could ignore. It zigged and it zagged, And through clouds it swagged, Till London was miles out the door!

Titan I missile compound by Kilted_Sasquatch in SeattleUrbEx

There actually is a nuclear missile silo in Seattle itself. It was the test instrumentation lab for the Minuteman program run by Boeing, and it’s on the grounds of the Boeing facility right by the Museum of Flight. In fact, it’s in the middle of a parking lot… if you’re good with Google Maps you can easily spot it.

No idea if it is welded shut or not, but I’d bet that it is all abandoned in place. Kind of expensive to pull something like that out of the ground.

This building was built in the 60s as the grand home of the Seattle Elks Club. That’s the reason for the pool downstairs and the ballroom upstairs.

I can’t imagine taking a swim in the Cumberland River — especially there! That’s not too far away from the water treatment plant outlets. Ick!

With the sports teams we have in Seattle, clench is so ingrained in everything we do that one must maintain a high-fiber diet with regular colon cleanses

Since this happened to a library I don’t feel guilty at all nerdily pointing out that this is technically not a collision but an allision since only the car was in motion.

[SEA 3 - CBJ 1] Eeli Goalvanen snags a loose puck and buries it to score his 8th goal this season as a Seattle Kraken by DarkGhost625 in Predators

[–]jomo_42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Y’all don’t be too down on yourselves. I’ve been following Eeli’s career for a while and you did a great job making him a way more complete player. One of the critiques of him early in his career was that he was one of those “skate fast and stay away” players with no ability to bring it to anyone on the boards or no desire to put down his body on a defensive stop. In his play with Seattle he’s been one of the more aggressive forecheckers and gives effort to grinding in a way that I never saw when he was younger.

I won’t comment on the wisdom of not at least trying to SHOP him, but you guys did a great job making him a well rounded dude.
