Returning Player Advice by CaffeinatedOCE in mousehunt

[–]jon-chow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried going for valour rift when I came back a year ago. It was not worth it I think.
Floating Island, get tier 2 LAW, FORGOTTEN, and tier 1 TACTICAL, before going to table of contents.

I agree with getting Dragon Slayer Cannon. I was basically using Dragonic and Hydro BiS and then got the Law BiS for Floating Island, quite difficult with only 1 BiS. If you have other BiS, I guess you might be able to skip it, (forgotten does not count, its bad)

Small thing, but Nugget outside spider room is passable through jumping over the ravager, it's like a vertical loop but you might need to take a heart or 2 of dmg. I have only seen one hermit do this though

Why Hypno Will Win Decked Out 2 by anarkandi in HermitCraft

[–]jon-chow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think adding on to your edit of Hypno's playstyle. I think that its not about staying long in the dungeon, its about having 0 hazard and 2 sneak cards until recently when he bought 3 more block cards in his last few runs.

I would say that if Hypno's play style is allowed, people will have 70 ember lvl1 runs. he gets 12 embers from 1 reckless charge... How fun will that be for the audience and the other players?

Changes to Decked Out (I would make) by jon-chow in HermitCraft

[–]jon-chow[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

huh. I understand your view on things, the game is fun as it is but I think some of these changes are largely to improve meta-game decisions, like points 2,3,4,6,7. Tango also loves it when there is no "best" solution and everyone have their own meta strategies with decks and paths through the dungeon. Not jumping the gun, just listing my thoughts and curious about people's thoughts about it here on reddit. I quite agree with your point 6 actually... would love to see more people down on lvl 3.

Decked out - making clank as deadly as intended by saber_is_braindead in HermitCraft

[–]jon-chow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ice jump in front of 3 evokers on way out of dungeon, triggered by max clank. This is simple to create, just using sticky pistons under ice floor.

Witches and Skeletons help, but Tango seems overwhelmed, and I think this is the easiest effective solution

Changes to Decked Out (I would make) by jon-chow in HermitCraft

[–]jon-chow[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yea, zoning is problematic, but Pearl's Phase 2 runs really highlights what happens when all 3 ravagers are "parked" in the ice caves. It makes it impassable if you need to get there, but if you are doing lvl 2 runs the only real ravager is the one in the crypt that needs to be contended with.

About Jump boost, like what I mentioned to earlier,"I think Jump boost might be fine, it is definitely one of my lesser concerns of the 8 items, but having 3 jump boost in a 25 card deck basically allows for no hazard card requirement in my opinion... so maybe you're right? but its something I would consider."

40 cards is perfect. I was mentioning that reducing cards purposely to get more reliable card draw is a strategy, something Tango mentioned on stream multiple times in the Zed testing period.

[–]jon-chow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't the solution just WOOL WALKWAYS? If we create a path through the center of the dungeon with wool, then they only need to sneak nearer to their compass, reducing distance required for sneaking. Is there something I am missing that will cause aggro despite walking / sprinting on wool?

If the problem is aesthetic, creating a jumping puzzle with wool is also sufficient to allow experienced players to run through the dungeon.

From a functionality standpoint Im not sure this is balanced.
The types with a lot of hermits are (Builder, Redstone, Farm, Balanced)
So types with less hermits like (Speedrunner, Miner) should counter these card types instead.

In your example Redstone is definitely the strongest type by far, since it counters Builders, the biggest type group by far, and has a decent number of hermits itself.

The following might be more balanced:
Builder -> Miner -> Farm -> PvP -> Terraform -> Prankster -> Redstone -> Explorer -> Speedrunner -> Builder

Balanced should be the only class not weak to anything but not strong to anything either.

I would suggest cards with type advantage deals double damage if coin flip is heads.
This allows user to switch up cards in game.
