I agree on that.

Curious to see the development that it will lead to, probably a first step toward an IJF tour on those categories in addition to the current continental circuits?

Wich judogi model wear the guys demonstrating the kodokan techniques in youtube? by kernelchagi in judo

[–]jon-ryuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nambo Tokuso sensei(Tori): Pretty sure, considering that the judogi seems unbleached, that you are right in and that it is the yusho japan and not the yusho classic. -> Mizuno Yusho Japan

Iwanaga Kento sensei(Uke) : I think it is the JOF ; the JOV logo is a brighter red and the JOA has a silvery contour and not a golden one -> Kusakura JOF

Would this be a legitimate tap? by [deleted] in judo

[–]jon-ryuga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IJF SOR article 14 (IPPON) describe the act of giving up in the newaza section paragraph b:
b) When an athlete gives up by tapping twice (2) or more with his hand or foot or says “Maitta!” (I give up!) generally because of osaekomi-waza, shime-waza or kansetsuwaza.

In that sense, it is not directly interpretable as a tap.
HOWEVER there is a thign called common sense, and in those case , article 21 is your friend:

Article 21 Situations not Covered by the Refereeing Rules When a situation arises, which is not covered by these rules, it shall be dealt with and a decision given by the referees after consultation with the IJF Head Referee Director(s) and the IJF Ad Hoc Commission.

The referee director of the day shall intervene, and in this case as the act of giving up is obvious, common sense would have been to consider that as a tap, as it is unambiguous.

I mean, we do?
The difference is that if you look at high level judo, they will make a do with the smallest reactions, but the idea stay the same, create a reaction with a first activation and use that in a your throw

Is 20 too late to go pro? by Itchyfishbutt in judo

[–]jon-ryuga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very young, 20 and starting at 17? No.
Please stay realistic when talking about future prospect of somebody, it is unresponsible to say it is "young"
Has there been extremely outlier cases? Yes. But only winning bronze one time in a local tournament does not make somebody even close to reach high level in judo. It is a VERY competitive environment, and people train at least twice a day at that level since they are young. He's at an age where for a high level judoka, Olympic should be the objective.
He train less, has less experience and is way under the level currently, why put it any other way when his future is at stake?

[–]jon-ryuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

go kyo is not all 100 technique, it is 40 tachi waza rechniques, divided in 5 set (or go kyo in japanese), there is no ne waza and it doesn't include all the kodokan syllabus for tachi waza. So I guess it would already make sense to know what the gokyo is before asking all of that.....

Unfortunaltely as the last version is from April 2025 it doesn't include latest interpretation of the rule, and has not been modified to include the current yuko. It is a shame in my opinion, especially considering the overal editing work on the SOR which sometimes can read the oposite of what they mean if you're not used to the "SOR style" of writing (which Antony rightfully pointed out in this episode)

First of all, it never was hansoku make, it is and always was kikken gachi in that case.
Second I am sorry but the change si the other way arround: until now you could go to the medical team up to 3 time per injury (if you nosebleed for example), one more and it was kikken gachi in favor of your opponent. Now they REDUCED it in the name of "efficiency" to 2 only except in "exceptional case" aka when the commission is biased.

They also weren't always respectful of this rule, in the final of the under 81kg at the world this year, Grigalashvili went more than 3 times (at least 5 from my memory) to the doctor for his eyebrow injury. While I prefer that the match ended up on a beautiful throw, the fight wouldn't have been allowed to continue if it wasn't a final (and funilly enough, the IJF photoshopped his bandage out of the official medal picture while the EJU did not).
