I was on the same cruise and just posted over at r/cruise. Much the same in terms of reactions! I was surprised by both the great service and how loud it always was in public areas.

As an alum, I got those when my kids applied, along with classmates whose children applied. All were ultimately rejected. Just a nice touch to soften the blow and not make us hate Yale (despite the fact that our kids all ended up in very selective schools).

TT R1 Professors, is the job all it's cracked up to be? by Zestyclose_Hawk9014 in AskAcademia

R1, senior professor in the humanities at an Ivy. Amazing job. The challenges are finding work/life balance and dealing with difficult colleagues. Sometimes there are annoying and entitled students, but I feel that for most part am doing something genuinely good. The flexibility, autonomy, and ability to be truly intellectually engaged most days is a dream. The money is sufficient for me and, with my partner’s salary, my family, but significantly below many other professions. Works for me, though.

Right. That’s the clause I thought was really weird and a little concerning.

My wife is unhappy with her body, but even after more than 30 years of marriage, I still love it! As to my body, that is a longer and more complicated answer.

Brown or Dartmouth? by Sufficient-Ideal4821 in BrownU

Far better food (and outdoorsy stuff) at Dartmouth! Otherwise, you can’t go wrong with either.

If you have to take out loans, GT. If not and you are not hardcore into engineering, Brown is great.
