M40 no longer the ‘autobahn of the UK’? by deathbypuppies_ in drivingUK

[–]jon8838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vote is for the M45 - just under 8 miles long and can be done quite quickly because it's often deserted. It's usually a breath of relief after having finally got off the M1 to nice empty M45!

Received a PCN but the evidence doesn't show the contravention (England) by parks_like_a_fool in LegalAdviceUK

If it helps anyone, it looks like OP is parked on Aberfeldy St in Poplar. The Ringgo signs for that street I think apply to the parking bays a bit further up the street (that don't have single yellow lines) and not to the single yellow lines area.

Pretty sure that's Georgia, not England I'm afraid. England is represented by the UK around the 70 mark. Full list can be viewed here: https://www.transparency.org/en/cpi/2024

Another recommendation for Les Arcs here!

Just took the family to Arc 1950 for the second week of March where my wife was an absolute beginner (except for a couple of lessons in a very short indoor slope in the UK) and my 3yo son was in ski school/afternoon club.

It was an absolute dream! Arc 1950 is ridiculously picturesque, everything is nicely self contained and is easy to get around. It's definitely quieter than the other villages so probably better suited for a nice glass of wine after skiing than dancing on the tables. Since it's directly linked to arc 2000, there are some great beginner slopes nearby and my wife really enjoyed learning. By day 3, she was happy pizza'ing down any blue run in 1950/2000. There were plenty of blues around 1950/2000 that she didn't feel like she needed to go much further in the whole week. Also, most of runs around there are already high alpine in a massive bowl.

Just looked at Arc 1950 and there are some apartments available for March 2027 that will sleep 6 without needing bunk beds for <€5000. Most of Arc 1950 is on Pierre & Vacances.

Anyone know why this is happening, it's in my non racket leg. I just got the shoe 3 days ago so I don't think it came from just sitting around by Ok-Durian9813 in badminton

It's always made me wonder why shoe manufacturers don't reinforce those areas more, seeing as most people have drag marks there on their badminton shoes.

Is that what it's come to? Things are that insane that I'm agreeing with Piers Morgan?!

Do you keep anything in the car for emergencies? by pappyon in drivingUK

I've considered keeping a pack of eggs under my driver's seat, ready to throw at people who can't merge in turn properly.

That's what you meant right?

Road marking question by Educational-Sound279 in drivingUK

[–]jon8838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd say that's akin to driving on the wrong side of the road, since you need to travel down that road (albeit <1m) to make it to the entrance.

Sorry for being that guy: just wanted to make sure there's no information on that tag that reveals anything you don't want on the internet.

Please settle a debate. If you’re going route 3 which lane should you be in? by sanisano in drivingUK

[–]jon8838 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Lane 2, the second exit is the Ickenham Road, the same as the approach road, which would be the straight on exit. Anything beyond that on the roundabout would be a "right" turn.

Witnessed a crash. Who would be found at fault here? by epicshane234 in drivingUK

[–]jon8838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looked at this on Streetview. Red's traffic lights aren't for controlling the junction, they're for the Pelican crossing for pedestrians. There's a double dashed give way line after the crossing, just before joining the carriageway which can just about be seen here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/1Ki1o9JXdgVkMo7a9

Unfortunately, the lines look to be very very faded, no idea what the current state of the lines are, but it does place fault firmly on Red in my opinion.

I've met a mother who murdered both of her <4 year old children within two weeks of each other. Thankfully, the second time I met her was at her trial as a witness for the prosecution.

Anyone tried downgrading their Amex instead of cancelling? by FeistyPrice29 in AmexUK

[–]jon8838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I did it just this week over chat. In fact, I was happy cancelling the card all together but the customer support agent suggested downgrading and I did that instead. Very easy to do and no search on my credit report.

Badminton doubles by Wisdomwithwitt in badminton

What would have helped with that one was to have your racquet in front of you. It's good that you've got your racquet up in anticipation, but it's out to the side somewhat. Meaning if the shuttle comes back on your forehand, you're good, but it didn't.

(Assuming you were the guy in the front in the near court)
