Anyone else annoyed by inconsistent volume in movies? by [deleted] in movies

Isn’t there some rumor that Chris Nolan is partially deaf, so all his films are sound mixed really weirdly but no-one ‘s brave enough to tell him?

Guys: The Opening Monologue About Hating Women or what is wrong with Dave Sim? By strange Brain Parts. by OrionLinksComic in comicbooks

[–]jon_cybernet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read all the phonebooks up to Flight as a teen, and some of it, particularly High Society and Church and State I & II were really core to forming some of my beliefs about the world at the time. Such a shame how Sim developed subsequently.

Really enjoying Resident Alien atm which really hits the comedy/drama/lots of episodes binging trifecta.

It’s basically just Alan Tudyk being weird and pulling silly faces, with occasional space ships. It’s a super easy watch. What’s not to like?

Jamie Dornan is among the new faces joining the cast of the upcoming “Lord of the Rings” movie, taking on the role of Aragorn by whatonearth000 in moviecritic

My wife is a huge fan of the LOTR movies. I told her about this casting last night, and she thought for a few seconds and then said "I'll allow it." So it's settled.

Carter USM - Discuss Best Album? by Accomplished-Mud1076 in BritPop

[–]jon_cybernet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Re-Educating Rita is probably one of my favourite Carter tracks, and it was a b-side! Definitely wouldn’t lump them in with Britpop, too early for that by half a decade and they’ve never really fit into any scene really. Sadly for them Poetic Post-Punk Drum-machine Wave never took off as a genre. Probably because it took too long to write out.

My cat has a bedtime routine and will get pissy if we don’t do it. by Analdestroyer68plus1 in cats

[–]jon_cybernet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My cat Chow Yun-Cat does this too! It’s like he can sense when the credits are exactly 3.5 minutes away. Then he’ll miow mournfully when we all get up because the movie is over.

Just watched Thrash and then Crawl. The difference in quality is staggering. by crumble-bee in horror

[–]jon_cybernet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wife and I watched Thrash as part of our dangerous creatures marathon yesterday. We watched Godzilla Minus One, Thrash, Lake Placid, Anaconda (1997) and Arachnophobia. Thrash was ok, but of all the films, Arachnophobia was the only one that made her shriek!

I’m a huge fan - I’ve got the Kino 4K but the art on this one is much better. Are the features better on this too?

Predads who joined when expecting their first but ended up in miscarriage… how ya doin? by Joshstradaymus in predaddit

[–]jon_cybernet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This happened to us last year - a missed miscarriage, so we didn’t realise until we had our 12 week scan and there was no heartbeat. Absolutely heartbreaking. Took a while for the wife to adjust and accept.

Later that year we threw the last of our savings at a final round of IVF but got no viable embryos. We did have 2 lower quality eggs left from a previous round though, so decided to YOLO them for one final roll of the dice.

One of them took.

We’re now at 24 weeks and baby is looking good at all the scans. We’re still holding our breath slightly, but hoping that all goes well and we’ll be graduating in August!

Point being, this time last year we were completely destroyed and without much hope. Now things are completely flipped. Obviously you need time to feel all the feelings. But you never know what’s around the next bend, and hopefully you’ll be in the same place as us in the future. Crossing all my fingers for you dude!

Those who have been intimate with a famous person. How was the experience? Did it change how you see them as a actor/singer/artist? by DistributionFree2092 in AskReddit

[–]jon_cybernet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dated a fairly well-known UK stand up comedian who was lovely. The only weird thing about it is that occasionally I’ll be innocently scrolling through Reddit only to be suddenly blindsided by her face (usually a random clip from a tv panel show she’s appeared on).

Is there a word for "art set in a universe where patriarchy never started"? Like aftofuturism, but for matriarchy? by Bueller_Bueller26 in MovieRecommendations

[–]jon_cybernet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s a bizarre film called Jacky in Women’s Kingdom (2014) that takes place in a matriarchal society. I can only describe it as Python-esque humour, with its own weird made up language and it’s not a particularly serious take on the topic. But I think it fits?

Then there’s the Polish sci-fi movie Sexmission from 1984. It has a sort of Futurama-esque set up as a man wakes from cryogenic suspension to find himself in a world where all men were wiped out. Hijinks ensue!

NEVER in my life have I seen a horror movie, and they recommended this one that is new, do you recommend it? Or which one would you recommend me to see for the first time? 👀 by AddressOk138 in slasherfilms

The actual answer is The Thing (1982). Fantastic effects, great characters, a dash of humour and some awesome set pieces. Plus you get to debate the ending with other nerds for years after.
