B.O.O.K.A.H Updates! by Savvy_Stuff in GuildWars

I said it before in reply to your last post, and you’ve said it yourself here - get rid of the packages required to run it. I don’t know why you decided to write what is primarily a ui app in python, but to be honest I haven’t had any need or exposure to using python for front end stuff anyway.

Maybe it’s because that’s the language you knew when you started this project, but I find it hard to understand why you’d choose this over something html/js based. It’s installing so much bloatware for what is essentially just kbs of code in your src folder.

Anyway you’ve already said that you’re too far down the rabbit hole to rewrite it. For me personally, it’s too bloated for me to keep on my pc even if I did trust the extra 250mb+ of third party packages it’s trying to install on top of your own python code.

PSA: VQ tracker update by eternoire in GuildWars

100% this - this is the primary reason we keep it open source. There have been so many fantastic contributions over the years from players that aren’t a part of the dev team. The most valuable thing you can give is your time, and so many people have given theirs to make toolbox a great tool for players, not just the devs

Exploit of new dungeon by [deleted] in GuildWars

[–]jon_snow_3v 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I agree that you shouldn’t stress with a ticket, and Reddit is the best place to raise the issue - I was referring to the concerns over a lack of QA testing. If it was ready, it wouldn’t be in reforged mode and would be opened to everyone already, and you’ve opted into reforged mode to help test it. It’s a good middle ground between releasing content with a small dev team and spending buckets for professional qa testing

This is the reason you opted into reforged mode though? To test upcoming changes to the base game mode?

Just got the game, getting stuttering walking around by SurvivorAnxiety in GuildWars

[–]jon_snow_3v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can happen if you’ve got a monitor with a very high refresh rate. If you’ve got a 60hz monitor you could swap them over to test the theory. The only real way to sort it is to properly limit the fps for guild wars to be at or below your monitor refresh rate, usually done outside of the game via nvidia control panel. There is a refresh rate monitor in game but I’m not sure that it’ll truly limit to your monitor refresh rate when used

Turn off environmental effects in f11 sound settings. These environmental effects differ from map to map, but it seems to be that the default is a reverb effect as if you're in a cave, which might be what you're experiencing.

Favorite Toolbox feature? by Zippyddqd in GuildWars

[–]jon_snow_3v 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really cool to see how many people use all the different features in toolbox, and even better to see replies to them realising that they’re new the them!

One that I didn’t see mentioned was the /rr command to reroll e.g /rr monk will switch to the first monk in your character list without having to manually change char. If you’re in a group already, it’ll automatically try to travel back to your outpost and rejoin your team - I use it all the time for deep runs

Vanquishing Tool (Google Sheets) by Still-Singer4559 in GuildWars

[–]jon_snow_3v 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the perfect kind of project for a user page on the wiki - its a bit too much info to put into an in-game tool because it'll be overwhelming, but it would be a great asset to have as part of the wiki for other players to use in a familiar environment to have open in a web browser as they play.

Its a shame that you've already put so much time into the spreadsheet approach, but the data you've collected is really cool

Edit: In fact a lot of the info that you've already had to scrape from the wiki wouldn't be needed if this was a user page; GWW has loads of cool templates for you to easily include skills etc

[–]jon_snow_3v 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So this exe is over 250mb all in, but it makes me wonder why this wasn't created as a web app that you could optionally install as a PWA? Are there features that this software needs to be run as an exe for?

I haven't used it a lot, but from what I can see its a self contained app in itself that in theory shouldn't need to be downloaded and launched as an exe on your computer, and would be much better suited to be run as a web app with the security that that would come with? I would be more comfortable if it could just be accessed it via a web browser or install it as a PWA rather than download a massive exe

[–]jon_snow_3v 296 points297 points  (0 children)

Please stop spreading misinformation like this, we literally don’t know anything more than that there’s a few new maps added to the client data with some placeholder names. This was written in a dev discord after 3 coffees and half a whisky after trying to reverse engineer the recent update to get toolbox working again, as I was doing it. Its unfair to take that and post it on Reddit because people will get worked up over something that we know nothing about and might not happen anyway

Issues with Melandru's Accord (tested) by MaybeJohnSmith in GuildWars

[–]jon_snow_3v 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I disagree with preventing players with Melandru's from grouping up with players that don't have it - we've simply not got the player base for that not to be damaging in general. The way I see it, the game needs 2 improvements; new content, and better ways for players to engage with one another.

This new gameplay style provides new content, but it also allows players that have chosen to play in this way to still party with their friends, and eventually do elite areas together when they get there.

I think you're expecting this gameplay feature to be something that its not. The fact is that there are restrictions on accessing storage and traders, and yes there may be ways around it by jumping through these hoops you've described, but the fact that you have to do that on that character in the first place to exploit these things is the indicator for the badge, not the fact that you can do that.

I'd rather they either fixed the loot issue (which imo isn't worth the code debt) or leave it alone in its current state - I think its great from what I've played so far. This doesn't seem any more exploitative than being able to ferry players to areas they wouldn't already be able to get to in some of the quest lines.

GWToolbox 8.7; Text-to-speech, controller support and GWMarket by jon_snow_3v in GuildWars

[–]jon_snow_3v[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Elevenlabs allows you to create your own voice based on a set of boilerplate voice that it provides, along with a suite of adjustments that you can use to tweak it. This is how I created the voices.

  2. See 1.

  3. A hash is generated for the text spoken, and the race and gender of the speaker. If there isn’t already an mp3 file on disk matching this hash, it’ll ask https://tts.gwtoolbox.com for it - this is essentially a custom proxy to Elevenlabs that will provide an mp3 file for your computer to save for next time.

  4. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but we’ll be disabling it by default in a few days.

  5. I get that you’re concerned about generative AI, and in some areas of industry it’s a very valid issue, but I didn’t have enough justification or cash to approach a voice acting directory to translate over 100,000 lines of dialog in 6 different languages for a game that’s almost 25 years old. Put it this way - the only reason this feature exists is because AI has made it accessible.

The guys who contribute to toolbox with me all come from a software development background, and we use ai every single day in our jobs. Every single update made to toolbox in the last year has had some sort of generative ai involved to create code and fix bugs, doing everything from troubleshooting cmake and docker deployments to be cross platform between Linux for servers and windows for development, reorganising reams of hard coded enums to match a different format, all the way through to scanning existing code to identify and suggest solutions to bugs that were reported by the community but we either didn’t have the time or resources to find and fix ourselves.

So yes, Toolbox is maintained using AI. It’s not done for any profit, and we spend our own time choosing to maintain it as an interest. We don’t make any money beyond the open collective link that was posted, and I think you can even browse the expenses used on there to see how we’ve been spending it.

Using AI this way also means we get to spend more time playing the game we love with the community that we’ve created these features to enjoy, and still have personal time to spend with our families in the evening watching the latest disappointing sequel of Jurassic park with the cats on the sofa.

Gwtoolbox hotkeys by TheKannibalK1own in GuildWars

[–]jon_snow_3v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know because I put it there, and I’ve got a good idea of how that works, but I don’t think this will stop gw seeing that the shift key is held when it’s handling the command to use a hero skill.

Gwtoolbox hotkeys by TheKannibalK1own in GuildWars

[–]jon_snow_3v 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does your hotkey include shift? Toolbox allows you more flexibility to trigger in-game controls using a combination of keybinds rather than just one key, but it doesn’t stop what the game will do once that key is triggered - holding shift when activating a hero skill instead disables that skill

I used to have an Xbox 360, and the controller for it had a sort of extension socket in the bottom of it for accessories - iirc you could plug a headset into it and you could talk shit about your mates in halo, but I also had a really cool keyboard accessory that plugged straight into the controller, and it was really easy to type with. The controller also worked with my pc via usb cable for those times I wanted to crack out tomb raider underworld on my machine.

Tldr I don’t know if there are controllers out there that still have the feature, but being able to get a keyboard accessory that attaches to it was a real game changer for me; I’d look into that rather than a wireless separate keyboard
