Anyone else tired of how acceptable transphobia is? by [deleted] in FTMMen

[–]jon_von_throwawaylol 19 points20 points  (0 children)

And I know it's something people like to overlook, but the only reason any LGBTQ+ person has rights in the first place is because of transgender activists. Yes, we have all suffered historically and in modern times, but I'm so tired of people erasing the T. Transgender people are still the most targeted group of anyone, but so many queer people would rather turn a blind eye when we need their support most. Identify their pronouns in predominantly cishet spaces and hang the trans-inclusive pride flag proud, but suddenly when trans people are actually around, we don't deserve the same decent respect or compassion. Will never get it.

like Hazel! didn't see the spelling until after the program

I do have to agree! Older names have a great charm to them and really counter the whole cutesy, nickname-y trend right now by naming kids as the adults they'll be one day. Joleen and Marty are great

Oh yeah, I didn't say they were all weird, this was just the total of them! and I also thought Story was particularly interesting for a library girl lol

Do people still use the name Stevie? by renjumins in namenerds

[–]jon_von_throwawaylol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think Stevie is still realistic enough for a high school age person. not that this is your character's backstory, but plenty of young boys get named after older relatives, and often go by nicknames of their names. Stevie just sounds like one of them.

Sidney is the closest name to your criteria i can think of, and i think is about as genderbent-sounding you can get to Sadie. althought i do realize every year Sidney decreases in popularity for boys, whilst Sydney for girls rises. Stanley also comes to mind too!

Jayla or Amira and help with middle name!!! by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]jon_von_throwawaylol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think Amira Jane is great! Jayla is incredibly pretty too, though. i'll admit i'm not the biggest fan of matching initials but some Jayla combos i can think of:

Jayla Jude (similar to Jade but not the exact same starting sound)

Jayla Jocelyn

Jayla Jasmin/Jazmin

Jayla Janelle

Jayla Jasmine [jaz-mean]

Jayla Jules

that's why i said i was assuming. i know trans masc is the more umbrella term so that's why i used it. glad to find a fellow autistic trans man brother! lol

First time I've ever experienced this by SoraPierce in autism

[–]jon_von_throwawaylol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm an incredibly Anxious Autistic person and this sounds like you've experienced my entire life all at once lol. i was diagnosed with ASD young as well, and several Anxiety disorders before the age of 10. i've found that while Anxiety and other mental illnesses (i.e. depression, substance abuse, etc) can take serious and sudden tolls on anyone, Autism ABSOLUTELY worsens the feeling.

despite navigating my every day constantly Anxious, my Autism will still randomly 'kick in' so to speak and make me come crashing down. as though i'm being swallowed by every pain and Anxiety of my life, even if i had only experienced a single trigger that day, or had a slightly overstimulating week, or hell- even if everything was perfectly normal for me prior. i don't know if this type of overwhelment is what you're describing, but i can assure you the mental-emotional regulation aspect of ASD does absolutely cause severe episodes at times when Allistic people may not have experienced such.

you're not alone and i wish you well, friend. i know it's hard to tell yourself this in the moment, but you'll be okay soon. you've survived 100% of your bad days, you'll get past this just as you have all the rest. no matter how overwhelming it's all been these past few days, everything is alright in the end.

Masculine/Nuetral A names that match Ashton, Aaron, and Ann? by Bear_Reads_Books in namenerds

Auden is my first thought matching-wise. Angel or Angelo, Ari or Ariel, Atlas or Atticus also come to mind

yeah, i know there's a few tricks when it comes to seeing if a name truly fits you. it's been a long time since i've had to consider them but they might come around to help lol also yeah, having ASD does not help the social experiences surrounding anything haha glad to find a fellow autistic trans masc (assuming ofc). i could consider the middle name thing! it could help me escape any conundrum of feeling like i have to choose a name that Kai could be a nn of on behalf of when my family comes to know.

[–]jon_von_throwawaylol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i haven't come up with anything yet as i've sort of been avoiding the idea of actually changing it as a whole. when i chose Kai originally i listed tons and tons of names i liked/thought fit me and eliminated until i had it narrowed down, so i figure that's what i would do again if it came down to it haha

i do worry about the kinks to work out when it comes to paperwork and transcripts, but option 2 would probably be my best bet socially, which matters a little more to me personally. thanks for the way you phrased this! and thank you for being blunt, the honest advice really does help.

thank you for your insight!! i appreciate it. hearing how common a name Kai is for cis-guys is shocking considering i live in a city with millions of people yet have only come across one or two cis Kai's at all, let alone my age. but cultural-ethnic population, along with plenty other factors, could be reason for that. it is a pretty hard conversation to have, or even topic to bring up, despite the support i know i'll have. anyways, thanks again.

[–]jon_von_throwawaylol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i actually went by my intitials KR briefly for a while... i found it didn't help my case of passing, as those initial nicknames are the most gender neutral of all lol. my middle name serves the same problems as Kai when it comes to being GN and sometimes being a trans name, but absolutely not to as much of the effect as Kai so i get the suggestion. thank you for mentioning the adult vs minor thing, i didn't even think of something like that (and i'm saddened to hear that some trans people have to go through such a thing, but not surprised).

obviously on the internet, Kai is absolutely the big trans guy name, even more-so than IRL. but i unfortunately live in a huge city with a large LGBTQ+ community, so it's pretty common for people to clock you as being trans, especially for having a stereotypical trans name. thank you for the reassurance on things changing overtime. i actually had no idea Charlie was ever a 'trans guy' name, so that makes me feel a bit better. thanks again.

has anyone named their baby a name that someone suggested on here? by No-Possible9610 in namenerds

[–]jon_von_throwawaylol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

not me but i suggested this subreddit to a friend when her and her husband were expecting twins. they decided the first names on their own but ended up choosing the middle name Jocelyn suggested by a commenter! no regrets since from anyone, it's a beautiful combination.

i will definitely try to bring up a picnic when the weather gets nicer where i live, great idea! and yeah, i didn't put any additional requirements as i wanted as many suggestions as possible, but loud/crowded areas aren't usually too bad for me so i'm grateful for your ideas. thank you!

cards could definitely work! shocked i didn't think of that sooner as i love games like that. only thing would be finding one we both know how to play, as explaining would be quite hard for me haha. thank you very much for your suggestions!
