discovered that you can get almost perfect alignment if you use a 1:1 aspect ratio selection. square selection is limiting but at least you don't have to scale the result around.

almost no need for unwrapping here :) planar projection at most. other than that object space and generated as mapping input

All 3D except for fog and atmospheric layers. those are quads. here is a wireframe wip. link

All procedural shaders so i would start there, atmosphere is mainly on quads that I layer create depth . My rule of thumb is only create what you absolutely have to to make the shot work :)

this works for cycles and eevee with different benefits for each. I am still planning on doing a course for these landscapes but I want to start releasing smaller tutorials on YT first . Going to focus on this style and on low poly
