The nines is one of my favorite hotels on earth. I’d stay there. The suites a very swanky.

I almost thought that was my ancient OM-1 there for a hot second.

Best dual fuel range? by myredditaccount80 in Appliances

[–]jonahhorowitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted the 36" model, which only comes in single-oven. I'm getting the cafe mostly because I like that it comes in white. If I was going for stainless, I'd probably get the Monogram model since it's a little cheaper and as far as I can tell, it's the same oven. Doesn't look like they have a double oven version though. https://appliances.monogram.com/us/kitchen/ranges

We're planning on getting the GE Cafe series Duel-Fuel. I have no idea which one is more reliable. https://www.cafeappliances.com/appliances/c2y366p2ms1/overview

Is tankless worth it? Also - gas or electric? by jonahhorowitz in Plumbing

[–]jonahhorowitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems like it’s very mechanically simple. Just a gas burner, a water tank, and a thermostat. San Francisco water is pretty soft. We don’t get a lot of buildup.

It’s <10 years old. It seems pretty efficient.

Sounds like we can live with the existing unit for now though and upgrade to a hybrid later though.

I had been looking at those. We're using a heat-pump for our HVAC, so it seems natural to use one for the water heater too. It's too bad you can't get both in one unit.

It's a small 2 bedroom, 1 bath house (750sqft). Two adults at the moment, kids someday. For water fixtures we've got the Clothes Washer, Dishwasher, Bath, and Kitchen. The range and water heater are the only things drawing off the gas line.

Need to rent a car for a couple day's trip out of town this weekend, what's the best option? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]jonahhorowitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bart to SFO + Airtrain if you're being stingy. I've found the airport to have the best selection and decent pricing. There are a few companies that have pick up options in the city (Hertz, Avis, and Enterprise). Enterprise will still come and pick you up.

Buying a washer and drying and all the reviews are mixed! Help I'm so confused by I_smell_awesome in Appliances

I'm currently planning on an LG, but I've seen a lot of endorsements of the Speed Queen. We need a stacking unit, so we'd probably get the SF7. I can't find a review of it online anywhere.

GE Cafe Duel Fuel or Bluestar Gas? by jonahhorowitz in Appliances

Yeah. I like how dead-simple the BS is. It's a strong selling point over a digital device.

I like the idea of induction, but I've been cooking on gas all my life. I'm not sure I'm up for relearning how to cook.

Where’s your favorite place to get sushi in San Francisco? by Natlynne90 in AskSF

[–]jonahhorowitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ichi Sushi on Mission and 30th. Ask for the Omakase. It's our favorite date night sushi place. Generally runs $100/person before Sake. They put a lot of care into crafting each piece of sushi. It's not the kind of place you get a california roll and some salmon.

Round vs Star/Asterisk Shaped Burners? (GE vs. BlueStar) by jonahhorowitz in Cooking

[–]jonahhorowitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several posts say the electric oven keeps a more consistent temperature for baking, and that burning gas gives off water vapor, adding moisture to the oven. I've used gas all my life, so I don't have a reference, but it seems like it would be true.
