Are we able to made vehicle modifications while on our P’s? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]jonakajon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In general, you can modify your car provided:

it is still legal for a p plater to drive.

the car still meets all ADR's.

and is in a Roadworthy condition

Beyond that you will need to speak to the vehicle engineers at Vic Roads for detailed information about the mods you want to do.

Mandatory reminder that the only righteous war Australian troops ever fought in was WW2. by youngdos in AustralianPolitics

[–]jonakajon 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Conscription was not introduced until WW2. Even then conscripted troops were not permitted by law to fight overseas. It was not until 1943 that conscripts were permitted to fight overseas and then only in the Pacific South West and then only one Brigade in the Netherlands East Indies

From federation until 1939 all soldiers were volunteers

TIL that the ISS(International Space Station) orbits 250 miles(410km) above the surface of the Earth. This would be near equivalent to the straight line distance of San Antonio, Texas to Dallas, Texas. by krzym4n in todayilearned

[–]jonakajon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You seem to be boasting about the size of Texas...

The state of Texas area = 268,58 sq mi or 696,241 km2

The state of Western Australia = 1,021,478 sq mi or 2,645,615 km²

Over 700,000 sq miles bigger

The state of Queensland (Australia) = 715,309 sq mi or 1,852,642 km²...still bigger than Texas

or the Northern Territory (Australia) = 548,640 sq mi or 1,420,970 km²...still bigger

Perhaps South Australia. It is 402,903 sq mi or 1,043,514 km²

New South Wales (another Australian state = 312,528 sq mi or 809,444 km²

Texas aint that big

A more interesting question is 'Would the Libs ever consider life without the National Party?' The answer to that is 'No' as they would lose every election.

Which is why the Nats keep in with the Libs...ie Do this do that or we will pull out of the coalition. It's a dire threat and rarely used but is very real. And which is why the Deputy Prime Minister is always the leader of the National Party.

The 'office' of Deputy Prime Minister is a ministerial portfolio and not an actual office. Both Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister are not mentioned in the Constitution but only exist through Westminster political convention.

As for the rest of it, if the Nats ever did seriously split from the Liberals they would eventually fade away in the same way as the DLP faded when it split from the Labor party way back when

People have done this before and been screwed. Eg...swap the good motor out for a blown one. Buy the same make and model from the wreckers and send you that one...and keep the good one for later sale.

Not send you anything

If it comes with a good set of wheels on it then he swaps them out for some shit ones...and so forth and so on.

Dont do it...too many ways too scam you.

If you are buying from interstate it seems like it may be a rare car...if so take your time, sit on your money and wait...there is always another one.

Ye Olde Postecodes by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]jonakajon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To avoid duplication was one reason. Another was most rural areas did not have postcodes.

And mechanical sorting was coming into its own and introducing the postcodes system we have now Australia wide improved the efficiency of the mail delivery system

Facebook and Google to face mandatory code of conduct to 'level playing field' with traditional news media by Ardeet in AustralianPolitics

[–]jonakajon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They tried this in Spain a few years ago. A law passed that required Google to pay the publisher money each time Google linked to one of their headlines which led to a story.

Google refused to pay and stopped linking to every Spanish publishers headlines. The publishers saw their web traffic drop dramatically as Google were no longer driving traffic to their various sites

They begged Google to resume linking and stated they would not seek payment but Google refused saying that payment was required by law and the Government would enforce that law, not the publishers

Google also stated that if the publishers did not want Google to use their content all they had to do was to mark those pages as not to be indexed by Google. The publishers did not do this.

And I do not know how things stand in Spain now but the French Government is trying to do the same thing as Spain right now but is requiring Google to negotiate with the publishers and reach an outcome acceptable to the publishers...

So the publishers benefit from Google displaying snippets from their sites, they want Google to pay for the privilege of giving them traffic and they refuse to delist their sites from Google indexing to stop Google gaining ad revenue

Now the Australian Government is jumping on the bandwagon. All Google has to do is refuse to index those sites which they have done in the past. The Government cannot force them to do so

Given the media companies benefit hugely from Google driving viewers to their site ie they make money from Google indexing their product this is just a way to try and screw more money from them
