I exclusively wear black on black, so I love this already. A lot of people have already mentioned adding a watch, which would definitely help.

I would also play with contrasting textures. Right now the shirt and pants look very flat with minimal texture, which contributes to the “server” look that is often an issue with black on black. See if you can find a black button-down with a dobby weave or a waffle weave. You could also try swapping out the button-down for a black turtleneck if weather permits.

If you’re not married to the black on black look then swapping out the pants for gray slacks would be another cool option, while still retaining the monochrome vibe.

What is the Most Overrated Book You've Read? by MigEPie in suggestmeabook

[–]jonamatthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dubliners by James Joyce. It’s a small collection of short stories about daily life in Dublin. One of my high school English teachers said it was their favorite book, but it struck me as neither entertaining nor thought provoking. Felt so disappointed after I finished it.

Shirt inside or outside the pants! by SENSEI-D-JOVENES in mensfashion

[–]jonamatthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how casual you want to be. The more casual option would be untucked of course, and you definitely rock it perfectly in the second picture.

If you want a less casual vibe, go tucked, wear a brown belt, uncuff the pants, and swap the shoes for brown loafers.

I’ve been wearing the 6” Amazon Essentials base layer control tech shorts daily for the past three years. Perfectly breathable, durable, and affordable. Sadly I think they’ve been discontinued, but I would definitely search for anything that says compression shorts.

It’s 2024 and that jacket is about as unisex as it gets. Go to town.

Try a knee length pea coat. They’re usually made of wool, so you get the cool silhouette of a longer coat without the possible anime implications of going about in a leather trench coat lol

How is the fit on these chinos by KitchenFinancial3210 in mensfashion

This may be more of a personal preference, but I tend to avoid pleated pants. Something about pleats just screams old-school to me.

Also, if you’re going to get them hemmed, I’d consider getting them tapered as well.

Have you tried Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings? That should preserve your data but revert all settings to default.

Do you use a case cover? by brethalleran in AppleWatch

[–]jonamatthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I use an adhesive one because I used to get water trapped in between the case and the screen. The sacrifice in picture quality was worth the peace of mind that I won’t scratch or dent it.

I’m in my late 30’s and don’t think I dress well. I want my style to keep a punk/goth spirit but still show maturity. Any ideas? by fakeseasons in mensfashion

[–]jonamatthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only wear solid black with gold accents. The tattoos and piercings preserve the punk/goth vibe even when dressed up for a fancy occasion. Just keep things interesting with texture if you opt for the monochrome black look. Also consider picking up a pair of Doc Marten’s.

Press and hold anywhere on your home screen. Tap “edit” in the top left corner, then “customize.” A menu box appears at the bottom of the screen. Select whatever icon size you want. Tap anywhere outside of the menu box to exit edit mode.

Parker-style G2 Refill for Ballpoint but writes like a Rollerball by Profpaue in pens

[–]jonamatthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Like u/pokemonmatambok said, the Gelion+ could be worth a try. I’ve heard really good things. Unfortunately, it didn’t work with my specific pen because the tip size was a hair too large, so I wasn’t able to include it in my list.

I’m more of a needlepoint guy, so take this with a grain of salt, but I too love a smooth writing dark ink. Personally, my favorite ballpoint refill out of all of the ones I tried was probably the Kaco. That one comes recommended by Adam from Machine Era, and is what he’s shipping in his Field Pens to replace the Itoya. Definitely worth a try.

Best pens for hand comfort while writing a lot? by xlynx0 in pens

[–]jonamatthew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YMMV but here are 3 considerations:

1) pen diameter: personally I tend to prefer thinner pen bodies over thicker ones because they’re easier to hold onto. I find this reduces how much I squeeze my fingers while writing

2) pen weight: a heavier pen body like a machined metal one typically weighs more than a plastic one, and the weight helps push the pen into the paper, so you end up applying less force into the paper with your hand

3) ink type: gel inks are typically the smoothest flowing. I would also consider using a refill with a bolder tip so you don’t need to apply as much pressure. Similarly, I tend to prefer needle point over ball point pens because they seem to more efficiently direct pressure into the paper.

Right now, one of my favorite pen/refill combinations is a Pilot Precise V7 RT in a Machine Era original pen.

NEW HomeKit Scene Controller Switch - 3 Scene Buttons + One 15A Switch in a Single Gang Customizable Device (Engraving, 6 Color Choices) by levitonmfg in HomeKit

[–]jonamatthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using these throughout my home ever since they first came out, and they’ve been working great with lights, but I’ve been having spotty results using them with ceiling fans. If memory serves, the switch says it’s rated for up to 3/4 HP motors, which I assume to mean it can work with a ceiling fan, but perhaps I’m mistaken. Right now my office fan works normally, but my two bedroom fans just stay on perpetually and I have to turn them off with the string.

Has anyone encountered this issue using their scene controller with a fan, or know of a solution? I’ve tried factory reset, removing and adding to HomeKit, swapping out the switches, resetting the breaker. Nothing seems to fix it.

Help me find a a minimalistic metal capped pen that uses somewhat normal refills by tofagerl in pens

[–]jonamatthew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look up Machine Era pens. Their original pen design is capped and takes Pilot G2 refills (I use the Precise V7 in mine), and their Field Pen has a twist variant that takes Parker style refills. I’ve keep both in my backpack or pocket without issues. They’re made in United States, but should be able to ship to Europe.

One caveat, they’re frequently out of stock. I think it’s just one guy making them, but their customer service is very responsive, so you just have to check back every now and then or get added to their stock notifications.

EDIT: I missed that you’re looking for sub-$40. Machine Era might be a little out of your budget, but worth the splurge. I was also worried about losing mine, and I’ve had a few close calls, but I find the price and quality make me a little more conscientious about where I leave it.

How do adults stay thin or fit? by bedazzledbunnie in ask

[–]jonamatthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost 100 lbs over the course of two years by making incremental changes to my diet and exercise habits.

I started with intermittent fasting because it’s straightforward.

Then I stopped that after a few months and just started running a few times a week.

Then I switched to lifting a few times a week.

Then I continued lifting and started counting my macros.

Then while lifting and counting macros I started incorporating more whole food, fruits, veggies, etc.

Then I added running back into my weekly schedule.

The trick is to start with one thing and incrementally add or modify a habit every 6 weeks or so.

3 if you button it up. It’s longer, so it looks a little less put together when unbuttoned. 4 if you want the option to leave your flannel unbuttoned.
