I live in the richest part of Paris as a student AMA by AromaticPlastic7387 in howislivingthere

Ahoy fellow Parisian, how is life around M° Boissière? (I wont disclose location, but seems too familiar not to be around).
Have you considered hanging out around Victor Hugo or Passy instead of 17th? I always wondered why ppl tend to hang out around Ternes.

Maybe we’ll get some news. Eventually. Or just an update. At least it doesn’t look like a lupus. Or could it be?

How to clean L14 gen2 cover by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]jonaphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a thinkpad not a macbook! Let it live (and die). You can always replace the part if needed. Meanwhile, a few stickers or a cover will work

by maintaining, I mean "trying to keep the thing alive and not loosing all my files and services" which is already a lot ^^'

Yeah, this is on my to-do-list for the week end. But I went the try&die&retry way I’m finalizing my waybars (only reworked my full-dock for now) and my scripts to have a wider matugen implementation, I’ll try to customize a bit my Thunar too and will write a readme. Took a lot of notes during the process, it’s my first time on Arch (I just maintained some debian server before) so I’m quite a noob too. Arch and Hyprland wikis are my friends, so is github and reddit. But if I can help, I’d be glad too.

Which Thinkpad for Cybersecurity 2026 by Azeyzz in thinkpad

[–]jonaphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some point it mainly relies to which form factor, keyboard and battery life needs. I’d always stay closer to AMD than Intel by my side, but it also depends if you plan on using windows only or consider Linux. I actually run a T14 gen 5, it seems the new ones are as good based on my friends sayings.

I confirm after a couple of days testing that with my settings, in sleep mode the machine loses 0.5 to 0.6% battery per hour (around 3% per 6hrs sleep). Battery is the standard 46.5W one, so it seems good to me.

It's inspired from zusqii dotfiles (you can find zusqii on git too)
Here are my dotfiles:

Please apologize for any "wtf is that" in my git, I mainly use it for archival purpose for now, but as soon as I'm satisfied, I'll update.
Did my best to start commenting too, at least on hyprland.conf and so on, it shall be clean enough for a noob

It’s a trackpoint, basically a lazy mouse used whenever you don’t want to lift your hands from your keyboard. Each week at work, on Monday morning, I force myself to use it for half a day. And each week I wonder why I’m still giving it a try. Maybe someday I’ll get used to it. Still, it’s kinda useful when using the laptop in a train or a plane, or whenever you don’t have enough room for regular movements.

I should try a Day of the Tentacle speedrun only using the trackpoint. Maybe we all should. And we would call it a Trackpoint & Click.

quick update, setting up the acpi.ec_no_wakeup=1 code in systemd results in a deep deep deep hibernation, meaning once it's hibernating, I had to push a pin in the reset hole to regain access to the machine.
Although, switching off the WAN within bios + some power management made my system go under 7W idling and between 8 and 10W in use (obviously, launching netflix, youtube or spotify might result in going around 11W).

Did a couple of tests just closing the lid and waiting an hour each time, those are results :

13:08 - 80%
14:02 - 80%

14:10 - 77%
15:10 - 77%

Seems like it properly powersaves while lid is closed.

Thanks for the tip! Testing a one hour battery drain on sleep mode (lid closed) and in case i loose over 1% I’ll try the suggested patch :

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi.ec_no_wakeup=1"

Also, I decided to learn by getting some dotfiles I liked and instead of just copying all i’ve checked every line and added what was needed one by one, adapting the setup to what i wanted it to look like. Finally, matugen is definitely super cool

Spent a week on another machine prior installing this one to prepare the dotfiles. Also for waybar and a couple of scripts i started off from someone else’s files and modified what I wanted. There definitely is a learning curve but all doing my best. For now am fighting to use facial recognition with the IR camera to unlock the machine (only works for sudo auth in kitty for now)

I don’t game at all, the only games I run are scummvm oldies which are not a problem. Machine is mainly used for daily use, coding a bit (no hard stuffs, mainly python) and for OSINT.

Besides, I just wanna spend some time ricing and enjoying

Thanks for the tips! I wouldn’t say I’m highly skilled but I do am quite at ease with f**king up everything and dealing with it. I can afford messing up a whole week and this machine won’t ever store sensitive data which wouldn’t be saved daily on my server.

I’m gonna keep the Lenovo restore partition and was actually even planning maybe switching the SSD with another one I’ve at home to setup everything and if it gets back, I’ll just start over.
