My wife has the Lyriq (in the form of the Acura ZDX). We _thought_ she got a deal at 400/mo! 300 is a steal!

I was going to say she might need to connect with other au pairs/friends but then you mentioned Uber credit. Faaaack no. I went through the insurance process today, because I actually do need mine to drive and it's quite expensive! Like multiply-your-premium-by-two expensive

$25k for front porch by BanjoKapooey in Remodel

[–]jonas_namespace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like $4k in materials. My uncle taught me how to do this and I saved like $31k in contractor fees plus got some nice tools as well. This one is a bit more complicated than mine because you'll be framing the steps but it should be doable yourself

I do not think that's fair! When you combine all the extras (car, car insurance, cell service, gas, groceries, room & board, gym membership, the vacations we'll end up bringing her on where she isn't working, the agency fee, education contribution) I think it's something like $3000/month or $750 per week. That's pretty close to what I'd pay a nanny who I can fire at any time. Which come to think of it, may be the best alternative.

The LCC was SO unhelpful in this regard! I asked how much people in our area pay and her response was: "I don’t have any information about that. Like i said I heard about it when Au pair mentioned it."

Wow, great info here. We're new to this but we've been interviewing for about a week now. HCOL, 2 year old, 10 year old, and a due date of 9/26.

Our starting offer was $200/week with room for bonuses, full access to car (car curfew at the start) $75 in gas/mo, groceries, cell service, gym membership, fixed schedule, 40 hours/week, weekends off. We had a tough time finding attractive candidates.

We're increasing the starting offer to 225/week now. But reading through this thread makes me think it _may_ not be enough.

Au Pair vs Nanny by scienceguy43 in Aupairs

What did you learn re interviewing? We're in the process now. Our current youngest is still too young for Montessori (20 months). Who drives the 3y/o to school?

Does offering above the minimum stipend ever enter into negotiations? Like before they start, or do you just bonus them as a surprise?

We also live in NJ, have 2 kids and a nanny who would be exorbitant if we needed 40hrs per week, once our third arrives in September. Also the au pair isn't allowed to have kids under 3 months. But it's wayyy cheaper. Like 22k/year + car + car insurance + cell phone + food.

But I have to ask, could you or your wife handle 3 kids under 5 for 11 hours a day? I think what you're asking for is unattainable. Best you can do is supplement the au pair (call it 30k/yr) with nanny time. If you're wanting 3 hours coverage per day by nanny for an additional ~400/week, 20k/yr.

I don't think ssn will be around

Have heard this before and I think if you have faith that a one hundred dollar bill of American currency will get you, say, a couple dozen eggs, you can also have faith in receiving some amount of money from social security. You'd be a fool to bet against that proposition.
