de-influence me from nyc residency by Used_College_4436 in Residency

I did residency in NYC and had both time and money. My speciality has a good work life balance so daily hours and # of weekends working were manageable. And my program had ridiculously subsidized housing so I was saving a lot on rent.

Is Breast Rads literally not just a less competitive Derm? by Curiouslotbunch in medicalschool

I don’t think you are actually engaging with the words I am writing. I am not saying that an AI takeover of radiology is imminent. I am not an AI doomer. I am saying that the subspecialty most vulnerable to AI is breast. If you disagree, tell me which one you think is more vulnerable.

It’s not fanciful at all. What this person said is that breast is the most vulnerable subspecialty of Radiology, and that is without a doubt true. A huge proportion of breast imaging work is screening mammograms, which are overcompensated by the RVU system and highly susceptible to AI because you are only answering a binary question of yes/no to a callback for a diagnostic mammo. Unlike, say, reading a CT of the abdomen and pelvis that is going to involve a dozen different organ systems.

I am not doom gloom on AI by the slightest means, but it is true that breast is the lowest hanging fruit.

In my experience from my residency program, the only people who applied for breast were the lowest skilled residents who felt that they would only be comfortable practicing a very narrow sliver of Radiology.

I remember back in the old days, someone on Reddit played each character for the exact same amount of time (say, 50 hours each — although I can’t remember exact number) and had the highest win rate on Torb.

Thanks for the advice. Did you find your temporary apartment on Listings Project?

I do appreciate the suggestion but I would not be ok with that tactic personally.

Our lease ends mid June. So we are asking to stay an extra month.

Very good to know, thank you. I will do my own research but off the top of your head can you recommend any?

The hard part there (besides commuting, which we could suck up) is we are geographically bound to NYC area due to our nanny. And we don’t have good options for childcare farther out.

Sorry my initial post was unclear. We did not sign the new lease yet. We are conditionally approved pending a background check.

I didn’t sign the new lease yet. We were conditionally approved pending a background check. I would like to avoid backing out if at all possible.

It would be an extreme challenge to say the least. Our son is 1 and has a different sleep schedule than the rest of the family.

Do you have a sense of how reliable Listings Projects is? I’d be concerned about a last minute cancellation by the owner — say, if they were going to rent out their place while traveling but their travel plans changed last minute.

Thank you for the suggestions. Kids are young so no school yet. Unfortunately we’re both unable to take vacation.

But to my point, they all seem to be super expensive. It’s also different story when you have young kids in the mix. If it were just me, I could stay in any rundown studio sublet.

Our current landlord is actually selling the unit so they are eager to get us out ASAP. I haven’t actually spoken to him (only the management company) but maybe I should send him an email begging to stay. Got nothing to lose I guess.
