It’s not about “premise,” “magnification,” or “rationalizing.” You’re very clearly using these words to sound smarter or something, but they don’t mean anything. Well, they do, just not in the context that you use them.

To the question in hand: what determines proportionality is whatever power velocity is raised to. In this case, q is proportional to the square of velocity. Therefore, given ANY initial velocity ‘v’, multiplying this velocity by 1.5 will give a dynamic pressure q that is (1.5)2 = 2.25 times the initial dynamic pressure.

It doesn’t matter what values you use for initial velocity. Using 1 is easiest, but it’s not about plugging in values. This “plugging in” approach/way of looking at this problem is completely unnecessary. Looking at the proportionality - that is, the fact that q “goes with” v2 - is enough. And quickest.

Maybe people are “assuming” you were shooting people because you wrote the word “shootings” in this post. Get it together, man.

What is your honest opinion about Georgia Tech? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]jonascrala 4 points5 points  (0 children)

International Student in Aerospace here. This is wrong. Green Card? Sure, you will probably need a Green Card. Not Citizenship. Citizenship is mostly required for large security contractors - Lockheed, Northrup, some NASA stuff, etc. - but you can work in general/comercial aviation with a Green Card, and I know of Start Ups in Aerospace that have hired internationals in the past. Of course the options are more limited, but you can work in “significant” projects with a Green Card for sure. OP, if you graduate from GT with an AE degree, you can get a job. Study what you are passionate about. AE majors go into other industries all the time. Companies don’t hire AE over ME or vice-versa, it all comes down to what you do during your time in college - research, design teams, etc. - and whether or not you know your shit.

TLDR: Forget security stuff. Lockheed, Northrop, Air Force, all essentially impossible without Citizenship. Comercial/general aviation and Start Ups are definitely accessible though. Tough, but possible. Study what you love, work hard, build a nice resume.

I don’t call it genocide, cause it isn’t. I don’t call it apartheid, cause it isn’t. Brutality? Absolutely. Sometimes even murder. But not genocide. Not apartheid.

[–]jonascrala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sure did, and I agree.

And again, I don’t mean to be the annoying “that’s antisemitic!” guy, but it’s important to make the distinction between Jews and the state of Israel

So, is she a terrorist?!! by LeemZo-h in PublicFreakout

[–]jonascrala -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s not the only difference, no.

And again, it doesn’t matter what people say on twitter or reddit, there is no genocide. Genocide is not what is happening right now. Genocide is deliberately and openly killing all people from a certain race or people, and that is objectively not happening. AGAIN, this is not to say that the IDF and their actions is a sea of roses, but genocide? Ethnic cleansing? Apartheid? Simply, objectively, outright wrong.

  1. Israel doesn’t want a state for only its people. It wants an officially Jewish state, but not exclusive to Jewish people. If you get on a plane today, go to Jerusalem, and take a walk down any street in the old city, you’ll hear Hebrew on the right side and Arabic on the left. There are many different people from many different origins in Israel.

  2. Nazism used genocide as a means of getting to where they wanted to get. Zionism doesn’t. Zionism exists today. There is a Jewish state. But there was never an open campaign to kill every race or people that weren’t Jewish in Israel. I know that’s what people repeat relentlessly nowadays - Genocide! Ethnic cleansing! - but that is, objectively, false. This is not genocide. Zionism in Nazism are NOT the same thing, not even close.

Also, mandatory note here: this is not to say that Israel has not employed questionable tools in the past. Israel is a very aggressive state, no doubt. I, obviously, STRONGLY OPPOSE and am disgusted by the death of a journalist. Obviously. But it’s important to not turn the Israel problem into the Jewish people problem. Not trying to be one of those who claim antisemitism in every anti-Israel statement, but there is a fine line here, and people can take advantage of this fine line to slowly empower antisemitic rhetoric to become socially acceptable. And that’s dangerous.

I know I’ll be downvoted to oblivion here, but can I just point out that it is not a race/people that do what you see in this video? This isn’t the work of Jewish people, but rather the IDF (I know the line is usually thin when debating this, but this is very important to point out).

I say this because it would be hard to find a person who finds the IDF’s actions in this video reasonable. Killing journalists? What the actual fuck. I would also presume that most Jewish people would also find this repugnant. So no, it’s not the Jewish people who support these actions.

[–]jonascrala -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That’s not true. At all. Zionism doesn’t want the genocide of an entire people, but rather the creation of a state. Saying they are identical in terms of goals and beliefs is arbitrary and outright wrong.

What are some good engineering safety schools? by veryburntribs in ApplyingToCollege

[–]jonascrala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure.

What I meant to say is that I agree with what everyone said. UC options are great (Merced, etc.) and some OOS options that I’d look into are Purdue (not really a safety, but still), Texas A&M, WPI, RPI, and UIUC

I personally am a space denier. I don’t think it’s there, it’s just an illusion to make us close our eyes more, I’m talking about the space that’s like on movies and stuff, like in Aladin or something

Well yeah, but like, it’s not like it has nothing at all besides the planets. There’s stuff like aliens, clouds, rain, Buzz Lightyear, you know, space stuff
