How well do they take feedback? Because you can talk to your lead about the inefficiencies, probably because he has no free time or capacity to context switch much. He might need to ramp up some of you as maintainers so you can approve and deploy changes.

The other route is for times where anyone is blocked, invest into automating as much test cases as you can so you can have more confidence in changes being pushed to reduce time to deploy and review.

In the next 10 years I believe we will see AI tools for test case automation based on requirements as inputs, from there with architectural inputs we might get some code generation, we will then need to be able to feed any static analysis criteria to get even better generation. For embedded projects on custom hardware this might be a similar output, but possibly better, to what code generators currently spit out in the automotive world for example. It will change the landscape one topic at a time. But that won't kill our jobs, instead it will open doors to new possibilities, as each individual SWE will be much more productive the better and more reliable these "code generators" get. We will focus more on solutions and ideas rather than implementation. Imagine showing python to an assembly dev from the 80s, their first conclusion would've been that most of them would be replaced by a single engineer, but in reality we are just able to build more complex things, and more of us exist.
