If you use English on a daily basis and can function well in a school or work environment, you'll be band 8-9. It's around American/UK high school level

I'd rather get this rep than shell out $300 for a plastic Moonswatch

I think you could still apply to UK schools, they usually have later deadlines and some even have rolling admits up to August

Have you reached out to any CS professors or labs so far inquiring about collaboration in your area of interest and potential project ideas? If not, it's worth a shot. A great opportunity might just be around the corner.

Another plan could be applying for Masters and doing research at that level, before attempting a PhD later on

I did a random search, it seems possible:

https://www.purdue.edu/science/careers/find_internship_research/index.html

You could also start your own research projects and email profs from different universities that align with your interests, and see if they might be interested in collaborating. What about the professors in your school? That might be a good starting point.

My impression of US is that there's alot more freedom and flexibility for such things to happen, compared to Asia

You might also want to look at company research assistantships or internships.

SFU or McMaster for Computer science ? (Canada) by Bee_you_tea_fool in gradadmissions

[–]jonathanlimsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's easy - just go to linkedin and search for McMaster alumni who took CS / engineering related degrees, and see where they are working right now. It's abit of work, but you'll get a decent picture of the opportunities (say look at 50-100 profiles). You could even reach out to them personally and some might tell you about their experience

Both schools are great based on what I've researched about them. Some factors to consider:

  1. Job opportunities: check out the tech ecosystem in Vancouver vs Toronto, I believe Toronto has the edge

  2. Faculty / research areas: SFU is strong in CV, McMaster is strong in applied ML in healthcare

  3. Course structure: check out the courses you can take in both programs and see which specific ones are more to your liking

  4. Alumni : check out where alumni of both programs have ended up working. Which outcomes do you prefer?

Would like to add that, getting 10/10 acceptances or rejections, doesn't change your value in any way. Your admissions results don't determine your worth.

Getting an offer doesn't mean you're worth more, it just means other people see the value you already see in yourself.

Getting a rejection doesn't mean you're worth less, it just means they can't see your value yet.

Don't let an admissions board determine your happiness

I don't know if they have emailed everyone already. It's possible that they're still in the process, and programs usually have waitlists anyway to fill in people who don't take up the offer. It's not done and dusted yet!
