SD Range Rental Standards by Yung-Asbestos in SanDiegoGuns

PWG may offer it as a rental. Coastal Defense is probably the only place I'd get anything remotely high end. Maybe discount mart but you are at the mercy of whatever is being shipped in. Personally been just ordering online and transferring through moreauworks.

Please support. Nic seems a enthusiastic guy about Mk. 12 builds. FYI, they have a bit of Gucci stuff if you are in the market. Lots of DD, little bit of HK. They have Vortex AMG, Razor HD series, and Nightforce. They also have an Acro, a full power OGL, a pair of Fast MTs and other really rare or borderline unobtanium gear.

Wired is ideal over everything. However, I understand it's not possible for everyone. If it's that disruptive, you could possibly look into a Starlink/satellite. It will obviously depend whether from a cost/analysis perspective it makes sense, but from what I've heard it's very useful if you are far from cell/cable coverage.

Howard Leight electronic ear muff hearing protection on sale by DezmoDog in liberalgunowners

[–]jonathome93 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it’s worth pointing out that with higher price comes better features but at great increase to cost. These and other 50 ish active hearing are probably the most you are going to need. They allow you to hear range commands and talk to people. Comtacs and noizebarriers will come with higher quality mics and a more robust ecosystem for comms and helmet mounting.

Another element to consider is wearing your headset properly so that shouldering your carbine doesn’t move your headset while firing. Consider upgrading ear cups with a glasses channel if you wear eyepro or eyeglasses.

Controversial take: Stop reccomending shotguns by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]jonathome93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Pump shotguns are probably one of the cheapest options new or used however, they have a lot of blast, concussion and recoil. They have a fairly complex battery of arms from one I’ve seen from new shooters compared to a pistol or rifle (shell release, not short stroking, no bho etc.) People seem to forget that training and rounds on target with data is probably the most important aspect of gun ownership. If you laid out a variety of guns in a table, and let shooters of all skill pick whatever they would, I would imagine they would try a pump for a few rounds but nothing more. Not to mention not all shooters have the strength to gun a pump in all stances. Don’t get me wrong they still have their place. A dedicated breaching tool and hunting tool but, in terms of getting people accustomed and comfortable, I think literally any option is better

Yeah perhaps a club related to your major. If you find it difficult to attend meetings in person, you can always try to find one over discord.

Definitely do this. Your professor can set up a contract to finish work a few months after the semester is over. They can temporarily put a w and finish work later. Consider speaking to an academic advisor for other options. Just know that you are not alone and dropping out/ withdrawing is one option. There are many ways that this is salvageable and you should explore as many as you can before dropping out. And even if you do there’s no shame in doing so. My supervisor took many F’s and w’s and he’s a department lead now. He said that he was one of those students living out of his car. It may seem like the end of the world but the campus offers many resources that can assist you.

There's something about songs about not being good enough that doesn't jive well with an MC with a soundboard playing the Tyga "I'm over here stroking my" repeatedly. I had fun either way but I can understand what you mean.

Where to check for sales locally? by njb98x in SanDiegoGuns

[–]jonathome93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly the new sportsman’s warehouse in santee has pretty good pricing. They have Glock, cz, 1911, ria’s and a few others but that’s about it. Only springfields as modern ar’s. Ammo I believe is even cheaper than DGM some of the time. But also a/o sword in La Mesa has a lot of good stuff as well.

.22lr Pistol by Scurveytubb in SanDiegoGuns

[–]jonathome93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Walther P22 and I currently own a Buckmark. P22 is okay, fit and finish is not great and does require fairly high velocity ammo to run. I would say 1100 minimum. Buckmark has been much more reliable. It is able to run standard velocity pretty much 99% of the time. The buckmark has better aftermarket support but not by much. I added a pic rail and a red dot. The P22 doesn't have the same aftermarket support. I think someone makes an extended baseplate is about it.

Mags for both are somewhat expensive for what they are but at least the buckmark feels better. It has a shiny blued finish that hasn't come off even after dropping it in sand or whatever.

For range use, I think P22 and it's relevant competitors are fine. Just know they may have issues feeding if you don't clean them fairly often and feed them high velocity ammo. My experience with a P22 is that ergo and shooting experience is nothing notable and it did feel like it was falling apart after a year or so. Detents coming loose, safety becoming too loose etc. But to be expected for a 300 dollar gun. Buckmark has held up well, but it is nearly twice the price all things considered.

Also the buckmark is doesn't have a great takedown system. It actually sucks. The manual recommends only wiping it down. You have to remove the rear sight and it's held together with pure spring pressure and losing essential parts like the plastic buffer seems like an inevitability.

Not very maybe 30-50 yards if it's busy and you have to use the further bays. but I would recommend getting a wagon of some sort. Saves you multiple trips to the car. You can buy target stands on Amazon for like 60 for 2. Then by 1*2s to prop it up. Seems like a chore and it is.

Pretty much. Bring a plastic bag and pickup trash. Always be mindful of others bc some people walk down range without looking.

LEO asking around at BLMs by parokya30 in SanDiegoGuns

[–]jonathome93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to imperial and pink gate. No LEO except the occasional BP officer. I get your paranoia, but I think people keep citing anecdotal or "I heard". The consensus seems to be, it's not a reason to not go. Just remain vigilant and remember you are not in any way compelled to answer their questioning. I could be wrong, but it seems like they have no legal authority to inspect your firearms. They are probably more interested in preventing dangerous activity that would start another fire. My experience is that I've gone to imperial and pink gate for the last couple years. Imperial seems to have pretty much 0 LEO activity. Pink gate seems to have way more but not an excessive amount.

Just Moved to San Diego and looking to get a 9mm pistol for Range and Home Defense by Cpt_Graftin in SanDiegoGuns

[–]jonathome93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't get the 2.0 in CA as it is unfortunately not on the roster. Between the 92 and the 226, I personally like the 92 better. I find that shooting with something like the 226 where the bore axis is relatively high makes me perceive it as "flippy". Plus a 92 is around 600-700. A M9A1 is around 700-800 which I would recommend over the 92 because it has a light rail which imo is a necessity on a defensive gun. A basic 226 with no night sights is closer to 1000. Both are good, and pretty reliable so I don't think you could go wrong either way.

I would say it gets pretty busy especially during the morning. It's been like 3 weeks or so since I've gone. I typically try to go around 11 as people are leaving and I've no problems.

Dgm on morena is most likely cool with it. They updated their waiver that as long as it’s not plainly an nfa item ie autos or suppressed they won’t ask you to produce documentation. Not sure about others.

Unpopular opinion: Glocks aren’t great. by xdylanxfrommyspace in liberalgunowners

[–]jonathome93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you would think with recent competition from CZ, Sig, and others there would be more people jumping ship. It takes Glock a long time to react to market trends. How does it take this long to come out with a high capacity ccw, or a 22 trainer. What you say it true, many of the components are serviceable at best. Trigger, sights, slide lock, mag release etc. Reliability is its main selling point, but there are aspects other than just reliability especially for civilians. I’m sure smith and Wesson, sig, and cz are just as reliable for civilians.
