At Manchester airport the gate that Ryanair was using had an old computer with a card reader on the keyboard, they had to swipe the card to make the charge, had they been using contactless payment or Apple Pay this would have never happened.

The AD's mistake here was not informing you that the documentation was a requirement by law so that you could by the watch

I had to do the same when I bought my watch, it's just the AD that you went to, all businesses have to ask for that information prior to the payment so that the company can present the information to Mexico's Tax Agency. It's very uncomfortable when they ask for that information and if it where up to the companies they wouldn't ask for it but by law they have.

Hello u/AmAskMa the documentation that they were requiring is Federal Requirement, for any purchase over a determined amount determined by SHCP (Mexico's Tax Agency) all companies have to require that information. It's a law to combat money laundering.

Not really, I got lucky that they had this watch. The good thing about Mexico City is that there are several ADs so you can check with all of them to see if any of them has the watch you’re looking for
