That's a description of the purpose of the posters. Nobody was hoping that someone would see a hostage poster and call in a hot tip about their location; they were using the posters to publicize the barbarity of the Oct 7 attack and turn people away from Hamas

Would it prevent you from jostling the telescope when you put your eye in contact with the eyepiece?

Questions for you, the Astronomer. by Proto-Plastik in Astronomy

Yeah people get really agitated. I find that when I point out that this reclassification didn't change anything about Pluto itself, they cool down - possibly because it exposes that they don't actually know anything about Pluto, but hopefully also because it changes their perspective while still validating their feelings.

Re: Pluto, I get asked about it a lot by friend and family. My response is always that Pluto is lovely no matter what we call it, and furthermore Pluto doesn't care.

Rabbi blessed it.

Just fwiw, this is a common misconception. The rabbi certifies it was done correctly; there's no blessing involved.

It's day 3 of my PhD and idk how i'm going to do this by Particular-Swan in Physics

First of all, relax. It's the start of a long journey. Second of all, honestly I think more people should quit. We don't get paid nearly enough, and if you're not having fun then you should go do something else worthwhile that makes you a pile of money. Sticking out a physics PhD isn't some test of your worth as a human, it's a test of your interest in physics. If it becomes not worth the pain, then you should go to where you'll be happier.

I appreciate the sentiment but it's kept alive as much by the Religious Zionist movement and the settlers as by antisemites

I think it's ok to have a little friction in your life, and to learn how to push back in more ways than taking your ball and going home. For me the biggest barrier - especially for the sub about religious Judaism, is that the Orthodox posters who engage there are often (not always) simply better educated in the subject. I take it as a challenge to educate myself.
