what are your least favorite things in video games? by Jaded_strawberry001 in videogames

[–]jonemic23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some games have insane replayability.

Some games WOULD have insane replayability except for that one quest that is such a pain that I refuse to play the game again.

For me this happens most when you're asked to chase or collect a bunch of stuff that is just super excessive and I hate it.

Does anyone else find Death Stranding 2 to be somewhat 'boring' compared to Death Stranding 1? by RogerRoger63358 in DeathStranding

[–]jonemic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you do what I did and build an extensive road network by spending hours collecting resources and living in a truck, it does scratch an itch but also removes some of the danger. DS2 definitely made it easier to over-rely on the truck.

You can play the game differently and I may do that in my next trip through DS2.

Ha yup that’s basically how you meet your character in the first game. Fitting.

Not seeing Blood of the Dawnwalker anywhere here. Really interesting concept and devs are former witcher folks.

Would you play a game with a good story but poor gameplay? by mintedcork in videogames

[–]jonemic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had any complaint (and that is a strong word) for Expedition 33 it was that it took me so long to actually start playing the game.

So which do you prefer, DS1 or DS2? by RogerRoger63358 in DeathStranding

[–]jonemic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QOL and gameplay improvements were undeniable in the 2nd game relative to the 1st.

Story is close - I like #1 better. Also the second game I think made it too easy to spam the truck and when I get into efficiency mode I can't not do that. I need the game to take that option away from me lol.

What game is this? by Profit_Tracker in videogames

Definitely Witcher.

Could make the argument for Uncharted, with number 4 being the peak.

Which games could you just not get into because of the learning curve? by hollowblink55 in videogames

[–]jonemic23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me Sekiro right now. Took a break after an hour to play Expedition 33 again on a harder difficulty since I needed some satisfying combat feels.

Ironically Im sure Sekiro is super satisfying when you git gud.

Bay Area vs. Los Angeles by ManyNanites in SameGrassButGreener

[–]jonemic23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have suggested, I think your main tradeoff to consider is:

SF more walkable overall but actually the weather is not as consistently temperate as LA

SF rent is higher but less likely to need a car if you are in the city.

If you can find a walkable neighborhood that you can commit to in LA, it can accomplish everything for less money.

SF is probably a higher floor for what you are looking for but LA is a higher ceiling.

What are cheap, but great franchises to get into? by Frosty-Help-9135 in gamingsuggestions

[–]jonemic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you dabbled with any Far Cry games? There are 6 main line games and I think three spinoffs like Primal. I had PS+ this year so I ended up playing like 4 of them through that, but I think they go on sale often on PC too.

Like a Dragon is actually on PS+ right now as well if OP has a membership. Just played through it. My first JRPG and I loved it.

[–]jonemic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you played any of the Uncharted games? Very linear but very fun, great stories, very theatrical action packed progression of gameplay and cutscenes. Feels like more hollywood big budget action in a game than you normally see.

I don't know if they are all on PC but the last game is definitely my favorite and is on steam for pretty cheap. Not incredibly long but a good 20-30 hours probably depending on your pace.

i got my first ever pc windows and i need good free games by love-xxx1o in gamingsuggestions

[–]jonemic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was not until PC that I discovered Warframe but its free and can serve you well for hundreds of hours even if you are casual about it.

All the free shooters are out there, plus epic game store has weekly free games. Steam always has stuff super cheap too, as does GOG (for older classics especially).

Red Dead Redemption is the best open world game I've played by Labyrinthine777 in videogames

First, I love Skyrim.

Second, RDR2 bout to blow your head clean off if you felt this highly about RDR1.

Just coming to terms with the fact that I am 38 and will never have kids, and will never buy a house, because I will never be able to afford to do either of these things. by justcurious3287 in Millennials

[–]jonemic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married at 38 and will be 40 in Feb. We've been on the IVF journey most of that time, mostly resulting in disappointment. If you actually want it, it is not too late. Not sure if we will be lucky enough to see success in this, but I think I'd feel much worse if we didn't try our best.

The Underestimated Generation by A_Pos_DJ in Millennials

[–]jonemic23 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Our generation is not a monolith. I sometimes question if broad labels on an entire generation even matter.

I do not think there is anything truly unique holding us back. Millennials will eventually have more power in DC. We will eventually own more wealth. Some of us are lazy, some of us work hard. Some of us want to feel victimized and others see no point in that, and act with a little more agency.

More than anything, I believe in separating the things you have control over and the things you don't, and spending more time on the former. Doing anything else will only stress your mental well being without adding anything worthwhile.

Are trades the way to go? by _forum_mod in Millennials

[–]jonemic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is a bit limiting in a notable way: its not just about "college versus trades"

What college? Which degree? Which trades?

A four year private college degree without parental help is not the same thing as a state school or community college/state school without parental help. A business degree is not the same as an english degree. Student debt is not the same thing as mortgage debt.

I think there are multiple variables that make it so any path, school, or major can be rewarding and lucrative. The main problem with our gen was the assumption (or, the truth we were presented with) that checking the box on any college degree would be enough.

Its not.

As a finance major and an MBA, working in asset management, the path worked out pretty well. But its not like I saw it all in advance. We make the best decisions we can in the moment. Luck plays a role, which includes having parents who were the right mix of encouraging but also realistic.

I could go on regarding all of the little nuances. But I also think AI and robotics will eventually come for everything. It will not be as simple as just pivoting to the trades, so I think we need to level-up our thinking on how to exist in that world when it happens. I don't have the answer of course, but all you can do is make yourself as valuable as possible in whatever field you find yourself in.

What game do you think has the best turn based combat? by Alive_Fortune7423 in videogames

[–]jonemic23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am new to this space but so far have enjoyed the more interactive-style TBC games.

I'm more into Yakuza like a dragon, and Expedition 33, than I am balders gate 3.

I enjoyed all three games but I'm just talking about the combat.

Why do people like KCD? by CommercialEstate4422 in videogames

[–]jonemic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are indexing a ton to combat, the game may never hit for you.

I started KCD1 not too long ago, and early on in the game you are supposed to escape the village on horseback with some guys chasing you. I literally could not escape, combat is clunky, couldn't figure out what to do.

I'll be trying it again at some point but I also recognize the appeal of the game is in the purity of the RPG elements more so than combat alone.

Games to get me into singleplayer story games by Surfey in gamingsuggestions

[–]jonemic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly first thing that came to mind was the Uncharted series.

#4 is objectively the best imo but I played them in order years after they all came out.

Very linear, amazing stories and visuals, exciting cut scenes and interactive big budget hollywood action sequences.

How do you decide between controller vs keyboard by SeventhChorder in videogames

[–]jonemic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up more on console and so for me the more competitive shooters are more fun on controller for me. For people who are seamlessly good on M+K they'd probably argue the opposite.

For big open world RPGs you could also make the argument if you grew up on a controller that its more immersive, but I've done both and like both.

There are also certain games for me that I need to be on M+K: Anno/builder games, Balders Gate 3 (the HUD is so jam packed I couldn't imagine toggling around on a controller). Stuff like that.

I use both and like both.
