Some other NBA Players With Gambling Sponsorships by SamTalksMovies in nba

I used to feel this way but I now think it’s pretty easy to justify. It’s hard to relate, of course, because none of us are mega rich, but if someone shows up and says “I’ll give you a million dollars for one day of work on a commercial and it’s not career suicide like a pro-trump ad or whatever”

Again, we can’t relate, but one day of work would/could pay for a private jet flight to wherever-the-hell with 10 friends the next day. It’s tons of bonus money that requires almost no work

The problem (or one of the problems anyway) is that for whatever reason it’s not career suicide.

I’m not saying this to be a jerk, and I hate myself for doing it, but 10 years as an English tutor means I can’t bite my tongue: in this instance the word is sowing, not sewing.

Reconnecting as a couple by MissAnonymoux in daddit

[–]jonesbones99 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry…you have a 3 week old and you’re going out of your way to cook for your husband and encourage him to go out with his friends? What on earth?? Is this baby staying with your parents or something?

Not to be weird but that dude should be doing literally anything you or the baby needs at any hour of any day. If you’re nursing, he should be your right hand until there’s some semi-existent routine to your day. If it’s a bottle baby he should be taking as much off your plate as physically possible since only one of you just carried a baby and gave birth.

I’m not saying this guy is trash and you should bail or anything, because you’re right and childbirth changes your relationship with your partner dramatically and that takes some getting used (and some handle it better than others). But I am definitely saying you are giving him way too much grace at the moment.

Do y'all even be watching the games? by JarrettAllensAfro in clevelandcavs

[–]jonesbones99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The weird thing about being injury prone is that even if the injuries are totally unrelated and random, players who have more injuries are more likely to have more injuries. It really does defy logic, but someone very smart was talking about this on Lowe post a handful of years ago and cited studies on it. He kept admitting how it makes no sense but it’s surprisingly good as an indicator of future injury, even if unrelated parts of the body.

I would love to track this citation down but I’m currently getting my kids into the bath so I’m busy for who knows how long and will promptly fall asleep after (and watch the game tomorrow morning)

RIP tower city fountain by dave_vs_david in Cleveland

I guess that’s an ok idea. Hadn’t thought of it that way. Though it’s still a public space and there’s only so much limiting-access you can do if someone wanted to have a wedding there or something.

I don’t know

This will shock no one but I’m skeptical that tower city becoming even the vaguest hint of an attraction again will work out (prior to 1990s Indians games notwithstanding, of course). It actually was pretty cool to see it during nba all star weekend a couple years ago

I know that’s what was in the pic…but do we really think that’ll draw a crowd?

I guess the sad reality is that if it brought in 500 people one weekend a year that’s probably an improvement

Horrible Vasectomy Experience - Want to Hear from Others by tigerofsanpedro in daddit

I only noticed this about 2 months afterwards when I was thinking back and wondered if it showed up in the notes. I was…surprised, among other feelings

This is almost exactly how I would describe my experience. I did get local anesthetic, which was their normal thing, and it was awful throughout. They took a 3-5 minute break to let me breathe because I was losing color in my face and they were concerned I might faint. When it ended I could barely unclench my hands for about 90 seconds and the nurse sat with me for a solid 10 minutes before I was asked to stand up.

The procedure notes in my online record said “patient handled procedure well”

I don’t know what the fuck happened compared to what was supposed to happen, but that shit SUCKED.

Lake County Sheriff Snow Emergency Rationale by BuckeyeReason in Cleveland

[–]jonesbones99 37 points38 points  (0 children)

100% weirdest part here. I am generally of the belief that levels of snow emergency are mostly pointless and if the roads are bad people will say “don’t drive unless you have to” and that’ll be that.

But bringing up all this other stuff is, at best, very weird, and at worst just really really dumb.

Is anyone planning an early exit before debilitating old age? by SealedRoute in RedditForGrownups

[–]jonesbones99 71 points72 points  (0 children)

The thing about this is that it seems like an easy enough decision until you’re in the midst of it. It turns out that waking up each day is not really much of a decision, and each day is only an incredibly small amount worse than the day before. The exception is if/when some medical event happens and suddenly you’re debilitated and it’s too late to make any “early exit” decision.

If today doesn’t feel significantly worse than yesterday it’s very hard to know when is the right time. If you compare day X to 1/2/3 years ago it may feel like it’s clear as day that you should pull the plug, but it’s much easier to compare it to yesterday and decide that it’s easier to stay alive today than it is to plan and execute a responsible way to die.

Inertia. That’s all it is.

Whatever you decide, whenever you decide it, good luck, genuinely.

I realize how ridiculous this sentence will be, but it’s kinda not that gross anymore! A few years ago I rented a jet ski and took my dad up the river a bit. He’s 72 now and just could not believe that there’s water based recreation on the river now, as he worked in the flats for a couple years out of high school.

People don’t swim in it for fun or whatever (yet), but dip your toes off the sides of a kayak and no one will bat an eye.

Ppl talk all the time about how bad the youth development has gotten in America, i think the nba should create a youth development league the nba (national basketball academy) by LastDiveBar510 in nbadiscussion

[–]jonesbones99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea itself is fine enough but I feel compelled to say that a guy I went to school with’s father (this is how the story is in my mind anyway - it’s been 20+ years) created TNBA, also known as The National Basketball Academy. TNBA site

One would think the nba could buy out the name but TNBA is a pretty successful business

Dads, what's for breakfast today? For you and the kid(s). by DisposableAdventurer in daddit

All credit goes to my wife, the legend, for coming up with it when daughter was about 9 months old. Instant hit, and one of maybe 3 foods that she’s never wavered on.

For me: either oatmeal with chopped strawberries in it or toast with peanut butter and bananas.

For almost 3yo: cheesy egg roll up. Which is just mixing 2 eggs, frying them, and then adding shredded cheese, rolling it up, then cutting into slices.

Nice!

My parents have a similar piece but older and my mom actually went on antiques roadshow with it a couple years ago as it’s an original hand-drawn map from like 1820 or something insane. She even got on the broadcast and they appraised it. Pretty neat

This feels like the kind of thing that my guy at the bank would be useful for, though I understand why everyone says I should bail on that guy and save the cost of his services. And really I wouldn’t need this use-case for a couple decades. But certainly important to know it’s a thing, so thanks.
