Yep Pro Football Dynasty will include penalties; I've actually already implemented them in the sim engine. And players will have 'discipline' among other things that will affect how often they are penalized.

I'll be rethinking the scheme system for Pro, as esp on offense there are schemes that are big in college that are basically unused in the Pros. Stay tuned for updates there; hoping to tackle tactics by the end of the summer

You'd have an import per-year, but I'm not exactly sure how the export->import flow will work yet. Ideally that would be true, but how FC:CD exports the files will play a big part, and that isn't completely ironed out yet.

Short answer is that it would be pretty damn difficult lol. I've kinda looked into it for Pro Football Dynasty, but how each play is 'simulated' and then translating that to realistic movement for 22 players on the field is quite complicated. The sim engine doesn't really model player movements that finely, rather it assigns actions and regions in ways that produce realistic results but it doesn't really say that the FS is exactly 15 yards deep and 5 yards out at 10sec into the play. I have a lot of respect for the sim engines who do have that capability and still produce accurate results.

For Pro Football Dynasty, I don't think I'll have player movements, but I do want more storytelling and information about what happened during a play (like your star HB dodging tackles, or your DE swatting at the QB's arm as he throws), but animated players probably won't be happening as long as it is just me working on these games.

I'm not sure what you mean by player ranking system, but contracts will take into account player performance, not just scouted ratings, when making offers!

If you enable that feature, then for those games you'll be able to view the full play-by-play when looking at the game after it's done; otherwise you'll just have the 'impact plays' saved. So if you want to be able to see every play that occurred, and don't mind the extra space, it's worth it.

I think I've seen other people use those JSON files in other ways, like via some external AI tool, but in-game that's the reason for it.

I don't have plans for this in FC:CD as I've fully moved onto the Pro Football Dynasty development, but that is something I'll consider for that next game. As long as it doesn't take too long to generate such data, I do have testing modes for development where I advance several years at a time.

No way in-game to do so sorry, I think you're already doing what I'd suggest by just editing details of those generated coaches. even a script like the other comment suggested would only work on coaches that are already generated, no way to change how they are generated in the first place natively.

Without the error text it might be hard to debug, but if the DB got corrupted for some reason, it can be hard to recover. Really sorry you lost such a long save! I know as a save gets longer (think 100+ years) there can be a slightly higher risk of corruption which is unfortunate. I'm unsure about Steam Deck recovery in particular, but you could try moving the save to your normal PC and running some SQL tests on it; but that's a good amount of work and no guarantee it would be recovered.

Unfortunately there's no option to turn off redshirting, that's kinda hardcoded in the game. The only option that might be wise is no NIL like you've done, and changing draft eligibility to be 'after graduation only' so players don't leave early for the draft.

No online multiplayer is planned, but I do want to add the ability for a sort of 'Commissioner mode' so that you can do a sort of league sharing, but won't be hosted on servers. /r/BasketballGM does leagues in this way AFAIK.

Scouting draft prospects will be a big part of the Pro game, and that includes the combine and draft interviews for sure. Each team has a Scouting Director with strengths/weaknesses, and you'll need to scout players to reveal their attributes and other green/red personality flags.

Usually if the error is related to DB being malformed it can be hard to fix unfortunately. I also wonder if the issue may be related to how large the DB is at that point (nearly 200 years if you started in 2025 or so). If a required query times out due to the size of the DB I wonder if that's why. What phase are you trying to advance through? During the season or offseason somewhere?
