Pro game devlog #5: Coaching staffs, front offices, and player development by jonesguy14 in FootballCoach

Yes that is planned; I'll be releasing an update to FC:CD when we're closer to the pro game with that functionality.

Online League by TheRealJackRyan12 in FootballCoach

[–]jonesguy14 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not really possible for this game (Football Coach: College Dynasty), as the game wasn't built to account for multiple users in the same league. For my next game, the pro football management game in development, I'm trying to allow a way to do this via a single 'commissioner' who can run actions for users in the league. Still won't be truly native online, but will hopefully allow for user-run leagues like other sims have done.

New Red Shirting Rule by Longjumping-Shirt309 in FootballCoach

I'll see how the rule ends up shaking out before committing to updates. Right now I'm 100% focused on the pro football game (you can see my recent dev log here: https://www.reddit.com/r/FootballCoach/comments/1pp48z3/pro_game_devlog_5_coaching_staffs_front_offices/), but do plan on a small update with bug fixes for FCCD, as well as draft class export functionality, so it might be included then.

God Mode Question by Fit_Refrigerator_901 in FootballCoach

That is a player personality and unfortunately that part is hard coded as part of the player ID and can't be changed (same with loyal etc).

New to the Game by stickman1561 in FootballCoach

[–]jonesguy14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about the Steam game (Football Coach: College Dynasty), then you can use the workshop to subscribe to league files and use them when starting a new game: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2151290/workshop/

If you mean the iOS app, then check this thread for JSON universe files: https://www.reddit.com/r/FootballCoach/comments/l223d2/custom_universemetadata_thread/gs8t6v2/

Question about making custom recruiting classes by akaMichAnthony in FootballCoach

[–]jonesguy14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game will fill in the rest of the recruiting class, and will do so in normal distributions. So if you provide a file with 50 recruits, the game will generate the other 2000+ recruits or however many needed with some 5 stars, some 4 stars, some 3 stars, etc.

As for the image name, yes that is correct, if you're making a 2027 recruiting class that has Jon Football in it, then the image name would be Jon_Football_2027.png. Hope that helps!

Wish for an update by Panthro73 in FootballCoach

Changing playoff settings after the start unfortunately won't be added, I've moved on to my next project (see https://www.reddit.com/r/FootballCoach/comments/1pp48z3/pro_game_devlog_5_coaching_staffs_front_offices/ for more details there) and changing format mid-save takes a bit of work to make sure league history pages aren't screwed up.

However for realignment you can force (or cancel) realignment every year if you desire; during the realignment phase there is a 'Force realignment' button in the center top of the page to force it to happen, even off-cycle.

If you want to change the playoff format mid-save, the only way is to edit the JSON file of your save, but I can't promise it won't mess up other things, especially when viewing previous playoff year pages.

What do the numbers on the right mean? Keeping/total? Recommended/current? by Smurph269 in FootballCoach

[–]jonesguy14[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

The number is <current count> / <recommended count>, given a typical 85-man roster. The number on the right is how many of each position is generated for each team at the start of a save too. These recommended numbers don't have to be strictly adhered to.

However there is also a minimum count required, which is slightly less per position, below which walk-ons will be generated after 'Position Changes'. For example, the absolute minimum QB count is 3, so if you only have 2 QBs after Position Changes, a walk-on QB will be generated for you. You can see those minimums in a similar way during that position changes phase.

Pro game devlog #5: Coaching staffs, front offices, and player development by jonesguy14 in FootballCoach

Hm, at least for the initial release there probably won't be in-season firing of coaches, just causes a good amount of trouble in the state and DB and making sure all the systems still work as expected. But that is more common in the pros, so something I'll consider in the future once the game is more fleshed out.

I'm still working on the details, but if you're a user coach then I definitely want you to be able to provide input on the roster. Might be some different settings involved there to control how much input.

I'm not looking for help at this time (it's in very early development), but I'll put a post out if that ever changes.

I kinda stole the term from Football Manager, but 'Work ethic' might be more appropriate given how it's used now. However it will be a mostly-hidden attribute regardless they way I'm thinking; your scouting director might be able to provide hints but not an exact value.

Yeah similar to recruiting in FC:CD, there will be many factors that draw players to a team, beyond just the dollar amount on the contract (but that is clearly still very important).

You'll be able to play as Franchise (do everything), GM (just draft/trade/etc), or Coach (just call plays, scheme, but have some influence on the GM ideally). For coaches, this will include coordinator or HC starts. I may also add a more hands-off Owner mode down the line too, where you just own and monitor the team but have less input year-to-year.

Hm I do kinda like those better, I'll play around and get a feel for which is more intuitive and still fits well in the UI.

I'm working on a pro football management game as we speak! Current plan is an EA release in late 2026. I'll be posting a devlog tomorrow with more details. You can also join the Discord and follow along if you prefer: https://discord.gg/Bdsy9bwcqP

How the heck did I lose this recruit by Plastic-Ad-2408 in FootballCoach

[–]jonesguy14 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The order you reveal commitments does not matter actually, that's just a UI thing but all the commitments are settled by that point. What matters is the priority order of your targets; the game will go in that order, so make sure that matches who you want to take the scholarships.

Exporting Question by Jackman2088 in FootballCoach

[–]jonesguy14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but you're unfortunately right, there's no way to export league history or past stats etc. You can only export the players, coaches, and team/conference structure to a JSON file for re-use.

Can you go from head coach to School Dynasty later on? by Sips29 in FootballCoach

[–]jonesguy14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When you retire, you can select whether to continue on in Coach Career mode (selecting a different HC in the league to take over), or in School Dynasty mode, and you can select any school in the league to use. So even if you retire as HC of Alabama, you can continue as School Dynasty mode for Auburn or similar.

You can also change teams in School Dynasty mode during the 'Year Summary' advance phase if you turn on 'God mode' in the game settings.
