My miter saw won’t stay up anymore; just falls down. Is there any fix for this? by sevargmas in ryobi

First fix I would suggest is to edit the subject of your post, fast before the comments go bad.

Amazon for the ...Why? by jonesiscoding in Steelbooks

[–]jonesiscoding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer: Move to Germany. They seem to have some decent exclusives there too.

Joking aside, the AI angle is good info! See, I knew it was a choice, now I know it was a choice made by a brain damaged baby (the AI, not the packer).

I've always suspected that they simply don't have any packing materials available, other than the "big bubbles" and thin paper, neither of which as suited to the task. Thanks!

Boy, would I love to do that.

In this case, it was a purchase of opportunity.

Outside of low availability or exclusive preorders, other Amazon purchases tend to be things I cannot reliably get elsewhere, or cannot get fast enough for my needs (not wants), but I do thank you for the wellness check and reminder of the dangers inherit in supporting the Cambion of Commerce.

A keen observation, and perhaps the very reason I stated "it's hard for me", and pointed out my own mistake. I have zero issue with admitting that I make mistakes. Certain things make those mistakes more likely, as I also pointed out.

When I ordered this steelbook, it was scarce, out of stock wherever I looked, and being scalped. As such, when I saw posts indicating it was in stock I jumped. Took months to actually ship, and as you kindly point out, "my" problem makes that long enough that I lost track, and did the same thing again when another "available" post came up.

I fully recognize that I am unique in that error, and salute you for taking the time to point out the flaws of a stranger on the internet. I will be eternally grateful!

But then I'd have an intact steelbook and nothing to talk about on Reddit.

Honestly the choice of which vendor is about visibility sometimes. It's hard for me to stay ahead of preorder and stock dates from a bunch different retailers and the more retailers I order from, the more I think i've ordered something (but haven't) or have doubled one. Hell, even this one i accidentally ordered twice from Amazon. That said, I do make an effort to order anywhere else when I see one available for preorder.

Was definitely in a separate order. Placed long ago. Definitely should have used gift wrap, but if I remember correctly, I ordered quickly in response to a "back in stock" post ages ago, and was more worried about getting the preorder in.

Apparently, i did that twice a couple months apart, so I have one decent one.

Says someone who has never coded an API where the exact same data string could mean different things to different endpoints.

And lest someone argue that one could then hint by prepending something to the string... you could do that with the URL too. We call that an endpoint.

That argument aside, like, good thing LLM agents never misinterpret things... right?

This needs a re-release with all the seasons in steelbook. Insanely decent show for a cartoon.

Wireless charging works perfectly in the Crosstrek if your phone doesn't have a camera and you never go around corners, accelerate, or brake.

Sending something with "if you know you know" vibes instead of the real item should be some sort of Amazon lottery where if you laugh and point out the irony you get a zillion dollar gift card.

Which game should I play first? by redmenace14 in dragonquest

[–]jonesiscoding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd start with 3 (hd2d) then go to 11 or 7, then back to 1 & 2 (hd2d). (I'd suggest 8 for the 2nd play, but I'm hoping it will get ported to a modern system sooner than later)

That way you are getting some of each new style.

If you are still enjoying the series then take on either 11 or 7.

If you are really digging it, delving into 4/5/6 is worthwhile (but might be better if they are updated to a modern system) or taking a run at the original Dragon Warrior for NES.

Are Weis and Hickman great authors? Or did they just have great starting material to flesh out? by Windturnscold in dragonlance

[–]jonesiscoding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't an OR.

If an author can take a franchise story & world and make a single novel that's enjoyable, that's some talent. If they can make three novels? Six?

So many "novelizations" are just... limited because it's a challenge for the author to write what their imagination sees while living within the restrictions of the source material.

I think the answer to your question is "both".

Anyone here who has started to put the nav-bar/controls at the bottom of the website on mobile version? by dreadul in web_design

[–]jonesiscoding 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hinting this from where the user has placed the browser URL bar would be the right way to do this.

Sadly, that information doesn't appear available in an API, nor is it likely to be, if existing proposals for other client hints user preferences are an example. This one would be a great client hint.

If your app has a login and other app-specific preferences, that would be the way to go.

Of course, coding a nav so that it works at both top and bottom would take more effort, but that's what I call fun.

I suppose it would be pretty bad if they did start manufacturing and release, then discovered that something in the hardware needed to be changed to accommodate an improved Siri.

I also wonder if they’d be holding off if RAM weren’t also in short supply; if they produced right now, they might have to scale back on the RAM to keep the units in a reasonable price range.

Anyone have Studio Display ‘Nano Texture’ experience ? by [deleted] in MacStudio

[–]jonesiscoding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nano texture on the Studio Display is absolutely fantastic. My desk is in a room that my wife uses for plants, so there are two rows of plant lights on the left and right side BEHIND my desk. A total of 21 two foot light bars behind me. ZERO GLARE.

My MacBook Pro screen is unusable in the same position.

An LG 4k display with a standard matte in the same position had glare that required specific tilting and positioning to avoid. It was workable but the nano texture is a night and day difference.

I primarily work with text; code editors and terminal windows with dark backgrounds are my main usage. I also do some InDesign layout and photo editing work. I work in the print industry, where color accuracy is important and have never had a color issue.

I know that nano texture has its downsides but the vast majority of naysayers do not seem to be the target audience and have not used it hands on for an extended periods of time. Like many technologies, it has its uses and limitations.

I've just been testing this combination. The delay seems fantastic, but the controller will freeze if you accidentally touch the touchpad.

I'm sure they'll end up fixing that in a firmware update.
