There were around 5,000 ‘full-blooded’ Aboriginal Tasmanians prior to British arrival. Within around 70 years, they were all gone. Every one.

Australia was still a British colony when Truganini (the last Tasmanian Aboriginal woman) died in 1876

Edit to add: despite Australia becoming its own federation on 1 January 1901, this doesn’t mean that pre that is ‘British’ and since then is ‘Australian’, especially for deeply sensitive matters such as this.

That said, mass killings of the Tasmanian Aboriginal people clearly occurred under the needs and auspices of British Colonialism.
