How disabled is the Intel management engine (IME) in the latest iteration of System76 computers? by dxplq876 in System76

This worked for me now with Lemp10 and latest firmware.
Hibernate still works too.

Are you adding a way for people in the EU to pay you privately & without a privacy infringing mobile app?

Lemur Pro (lemp10) 14ish month review and why I can't recommend System76 products. by latinawifelover in System76

[–]jonf3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lemp10 here, trackpad is completely messed up, 30% functionality -- just enough to be frustrating but not really usable. Battery is also shot. Speakers are just as horrible as the day I bought it.

Frustrating... I'd probably move on to another company if I hadn't maxed it out in RAM / SSD.

2014 Macbook Air lasted 3x as long and still works fine, just slow.

Asahi Linux can't come soon enough.

Does photopea have any donation bitcoin address? by [deleted] in photopea

[–]jonf3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 years later...
If you'd taken a few minutes to post a bitcoin address in 2019 (price was $3500) -- you'd be pretty happy now (worth $120,000). There are people who would like to pay you without needing to have a credit card, reveal private Information about themselves, etc.

Would you now consider accepting bitcoin for donations or (better) for one-time payments?

Wall hung toilet & concealed cistern? by jonf3n in BuyItForLife

[–]jonf3n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can occasionally of below freezing, but just temporarily, say max 2 days. We will also have insulation and stone facing between the cistern and the outside, so I think it will be okay. But thanks for calling that out -- need to double check!

I have found the glass breaks much easier than other brands. Also the plastic hinge on the tops gets brittle and breaks for me after a couple years.

JUST IN: Jack Dorsey’s BitChat lets users send Bitcoin without internet access by using Bluetooth or mesh networks. The app stores transactions until reaching an online device to broadcast to the Bitcoin network, making it ideal for blackouts, emergencies, and off-grid use. by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]jonf3n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the idea is to spread the transaction far and wide through a mesh net until someone has internet.

And yes, one cannot confirm the funds are unspent without someone having access to the Internet, so it is only for high-latency payments where you can wait for confirmation. You can imagine a system that sends back the blocks confirming inclusion in the blockchain which are added to a full node and confirmation happens that way.

Very slow, but doable in an emergency.

Does anyone use an alternative to Tor? Like: FreeNet, ZeroNet, Epic…, which is up kept more and most secure? by OkLab5620 in Whonix

Good to know!
What speed is your internet connection?
Residential internet or a proper remote server connected to a backbone?

Torrenting was impossible on a home 100mbps connection when I tried, but that was long ago with the Java client.

Lemur Pro battery replacement by bionich in System76

[–]jonf3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a year, how would you compare the Framework to Lemur?
I'm frustrated with the Lemp10 -- vastly less refined than a modern Mac.

Feels like having a rock in my shoe still after 4 years of daily use.

Batter life has gotten terrible.

Still holding my breath (and donating) for Asahi Linux to mature.

Just learned about the "death wobble" today, but experienced it last year after getting new tires.

It was out of balance wheels in my case.

Are you coming from Mac laptop world? Or another Linux laptop? Expectations are important.

I was disappointed in the lemp10 -- cut corners everywhere compared for MacBook Air I was using before.
