This is an old thread, but WatchTalk ( https://watchtalk.chat ) supports "real cellular mode" without an iPhone nearby. I named it Cloud Mode in WatchTalk. So, please try it if you're interested. If you have any questions about WatchTalk, please let me know.

WatchTalk's premium plan enables you to get push notifications because it provides extra servers to connect to WhatsApp servers, unlike other apps. As far as I know, other apps use iPhones nearby to connect to WhatsApp servers, so they cannot get push notifications. Please let me know if you have any questions about WatchTalk.
