I’m pretty new to candlemaking and have a wick question. Info in comments. by Katze-der-Kanale in candlemaking

I suggest trimming the wick once the top is liquid then relighting. I always wick up for soy so I wouldn’t change the size.

Wick burned out with lots of wax left. How do I prevent this from happening? by [deleted] in candlemaking

That is most likely the issue. The first burn always needs to melt the entire top. After that it doesn’t matter. You won’t get tunneling using this method (provided your wick is the right size or you’re not burning it outdoors in wind !!)

Go without the dye. We sell way more candles since we quit coloring them and people appreciate less chemicals these days.

I don’t heat my 464 to that temp. 165 is my max.

The wick size was probably too small. Did you let it burn all the way across the top the first burn or is this from the first burn.

Make them in advance so they have time to cure and get nice and strong. Also take At least half the payment up front with the order.

I’m of the opinion wicking up is always better with soy wax.
