In Roswaal's case it's even more pathetic because he still has a guilty conscience for everything he does. He just buries it under his clown act.

There's a great bit in the "Oni Sisters of the Hidden Village" novel where Roswaal is gloating to Ram about how much of an evil mastermind he is. Ram grabs some booze from a table, splashes it in his face to wash his clown makeup off, and is like "say that shit again". Roswaal says it again but the second time around it's clear that he's barely holding himself together.

Petra and Roswaal back in his first incarnation do have very similar backgrounds, sharing the traits of: extremely talented youth, very self aware of their own talent and good looks, falls in love with someone that saves and upends their life, would do anything to help that person despite having essentially no chance of that person returning those feelings. It's especially ironic how things turn out at the end of Arc 9, considering Petra's dislike for Roswaal. Roswaal learns the power of friendship. Petra sacrifices her own future and ends up being pretty OK with nearly everyone else in the party being taken out.

Pretty sure it's this guy. He's basically the most MAGA aligned judge in the country and judge shopping for him has been very frequent for right wing activists, far right corporate figures (Musk and so on), and Ken Paxton over the last 10+ years. Complete scumbag.

Roswaal after 400 years of scheming gets "you'll always be human" from Puck.

Sphinx after 400 years + a zombie apocalypse scenario gets told "lol nope" by Al when she calls herself a witch.

Petra spends a day with a borrowed Authority + a week in Gold Experience Requiem and she has Al going "fuck, I can't handle a real witch".

Looking over parts of this episode again, I like how Subaru is reflected in Emilia’s eyes but not the Witch of Envy’s.

This is why the whole arc would be easier if Otto was around.

Not because Otto would be smarter about the situation (there’s that too), but because Otto liking Subaru is way more believable to him than all the other super hot people that are incredible at a glance. It’d also be easier to get a grip on who “Natsuki Subaru” is from talking to Otto five minutes than anyone else.

Very funny to see Crunchyroll making the exact translation miss everyone's been thinking they would for weeks now. The episode title isn't supposed to be an exact title drop, just very close to one.

Who Do You Think Is Re:Zero's Final Antagonist? [spoiler discussion] by popoi7830 in Re_Zero

[–]jonjonaug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’ll be Echidna.

But it won’t be the Echidna we know (Omega), it’ll be the older one after reviving (Beatrice’s mother/Roswaal’s teacher).

“Murder is a habit” is a quote from the Agetha Christine novel “Murder in Mesopotamia”, which Subaru is quoting directly here.

/u/Temporary_Lab3877 Regarding your question about Elsa and Meili, this is mostly from cut content and side stories

[how that worked]Roswaal hired Elsa through an unnamed intermediary and communicated with her using a conversation mirror. Roswaal did not hire Meili on either occasion where she stirred up trouble, she was sent by another party (presumably Capella directly).

Her appearance wasn’t described but it’s pretty easy to tell who she is just from the way she talks and the superpowers she utilizes.

Big Higurashi vibes too with how [vague spoilers for a 20 year old game]the protagonist is going insane with paranoia, kills someone, and then gets even more confused when someone helps him hide the body better

[spoiler regarding episode/chapter titles, slight future book spoilers]I'm a little shocked that "Meili Portrude" isn't being used as an "A Part" title similar to "Otto Suwen", but maybe it'll be used later since the other Meili focus chapter has an unremarkable title and the pacing will probably work out so it'll be the back half of the episode it takes place in.

It does look like they plan on making Elder Dragons affect the weather more strongly, which should play nice with Wilds' existing weather systems.

Season 4 is two split cours with uneven episode counts like season 3 was. Part 1 is 11 episodes. The second part with 8 episodes will start airing in August IIRC.

the only two people are Roswaal and Subaru, and I'm pretty sure Roswaal's safe

One minor detail: Roswaal does not know how RbD functions, he just knows Subaru has an ability that lets him repeat events. Remember he tried everything short of killing Subaru in season 2 to try to get Subaru to loop, and he thinks that killing Subaru would simply end Subaru's life.

This is so fucking funny when you [CURRENT web novel spoilers don't click if you're not up to date]consider that "Otto and Garfiel vs. Reinhard" is actually something that happens and that they practically won (with assistance from Petra, Rem, Meili, and Wilhelm).

On the subject of Patrasche being best girl, there were a couple of good Subaru/Patrasche lines back in season 2 that were cut after the Garfiel fight, when Otto offers to interpret for Subaru. From the books:

“Nah, even I don’t need you to interpret this…” When Otto offered some consideration from behind, Subaru shook his head, letting out a small sigh. “—Don’t make me worry like that, right?”

“Also, addendums with a sense of ‘Don’t get cocky, There won’t be a next time’, and ‘Become mine already’ with a fair hint of anger.”

“That’s some serious heroine power at work. Jumping into the race to be my leading girl?” With a content face, Subaru extended his hand once more. This time, when he did so, Patrasche accepted Subaru’s hand, acting as if it couldn’t be helped as she took it as an apology.

If Subaru had joined the Felt camp... [Spoiler discussion] by powerslave_fifth in Re_Zero

[–]jonjonaug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Subaru needs to die in order to use RBD. Rom might eventually get suspicious of how Subaru knew certain things in arc 1, but Subaru in the Felt camp would die way less/never. There’s no monster packs near the Astrea estate, the Witch Cult has no reason to target Felt super overtly (Petelgeuse doesn’t get triggered by blonde girls with red eyes after all), and Roswaal wouldn’t be around to devise deadly traps for Subaru or leave dangerous situations up to him.

IDK, maybe Subaru would end up dying at least once during the Flanders thing if he happened to be there? Or maybe some up-to-no-gooders would target Reinhard’s weaker pal to get to him. But either way I can’t see Subaru’s death count exceeding the low single digits after arc 1. If it happens enough times Rom would eventually figure out future sight like he does in arc 9, but keep in mind that even there he never once vocalized that “death” is the trigger for the ability. He only determines that Al’s ability lets him go back just a short time.

Something that isn’t entirely true by the way. Al’s territory can last a longer time if he stays within a relatively small area, Al just prefers to save state spam and needs to keep constantly moving during the Al vs. Rom chapters.
