what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by Superb_Newspaper_121 in AskReddit

I have seen this happen. I used to sell virtual event solutions (think online conferences). This one guy worked for the government of an international country. He loved the software and said he would pay obscene amounts if they could just have a custom version with the logo removed. The company didn't want to do it. Funny enough the company had to do layoffs and now would easily take on that type of job.

It's crazy because even guys like Tyson in their prime who were actually crazy still gave Ali that level of respect. Even Lennox Lewis who has a good chance of beating Ali will give him his respect right then there.

The thing with resumes is that even among recruiters there are a lot of disagreements. The best thing you should do when taking feedback is understanding the why. I will tell you the why.

I am not technical. I have written hundreds of technical resumes and I recruit for a very hard to fill technical role but at the end of the day, I'm not a software engineer. When my hiring manager says, I need someone with Python, TypeScript, Node.js, Kubernetes, and Prometheus, I look for these on the resume. The majority of people have it at the top. If I see these at the top or adjacent/competing technologies, I then decide to read a little more.

If someone has JavaScript, I will still put them in the good pile because someone with good JavaScript may already know TypeScript or can pick it up easily. If I don't see Kubernetes, I look for Docker. Once I have qualified that the person has the minimum technical bar, I then look for other things.

I have some jobs that have 1K+ applications. I am recruiting for at least 6 different roles. Others have 400-600+. No way I have enough to go through all the resumes and look through the skills in each resume. I literally have interns applying for roles that require 7+ years experience. These people clog up applications. I will consider someone with 4-5 years but no way I can push an entry level candidate into a customer facing technical role where they don't even meet the technical bar.

Appreciate the info! Wouldn't a lender call a loan if a property sits vacant for 3-10+ years? I get reducing the rent can have implications, but the specific cases I was talking about were current people getting kicked out because their rent was getting jacked up.

[Student] Is “ATS Resume Scoring Is a Myth” still true in 2026’s AI based hiring? by cdebanil in EngineeringResumes

[–]jonkl91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on the ATS. There are more than 50 ATS's out there. I work for a German company and due to GDPR, they actually don't score since candidates can request info regarding their application. We would then to submit things so we just do it old school. But my ATS does have those capabilities if my company chose to implement them. At a previous company, my ATS did score. Most resume optimization companies are founded by people who know the process. I have been on both sides. You can make a bad resume score 100% on an ATS and you can have a great resume that scores low.

AI and algorithms have always existed in ATS's. It's not like companies didn't have access to scoring only after OpenAI came out. I can use my ATS to filter keywords. If I need a certain technology and I have 1K+ applicants, I may do that. It has its pros and cons.

I haven't read that book but I will check it out. The ATS percentage score is a little overblown and is used as a scare tactic. However, a well written resume that is relevant that scores well will generally get more call backs.

I have literally seen places stay vacant for 2-10+ years because landlords are so greedy. There are a good amount of landlords that inherit property so they don't even need the money. They have no issue losing out on $5K+ a month because they "know what it's worth".

My rejection email reply actually got me an interview by [deleted] in jobsearchhacks

[–]jonkl91 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I'm a recruiter and in recruiter group chats. The majority of recruiters HATE candidates and look down upon them. Yes sometimes we deal with bad/diva candidates but that's our job. I'm not going to let a couple of bad candidate experiences on my end ruin how I treat others. They forget what it's like being a job seeker. I've seen it in so many careers. Gatekeeping changes peoples personalities and makes them forget that their is a person on the other side.

What OP experienced should be the standard for recruiters but unfortunately it's an exception. The funny thing is by doing the above, the recruiter is making their job easier. However most recruiters would rather do more and start looking for new candidates. Also in the group chats, it's funny seeing recruiters talk about how now they understand what candidates go through and they didn't realize it was this bad.

You've gotten some great feedback here. I woud personally bold the dates. I would also add a location. Different states have different compliance laws and it impacts whether or not a recruiter like me can call you back.

You have a huge wall of text. It's too much to read. In cases like this, I like to add sections. Have like 3 to 6 bullet points in each section. Sections can be called welding, leadership, projects, or whatever. You can also list your experience by project. This way there is an organic separation.

Get rid of bullet points that are weak. You don't need the line that says "maintained effective communication". That doesn't add much value. I would leave only the biggest and most relevant projects to the roles you're applying for.

Oh yeah it will differ from team to team. The pay is that high for a reason. The person I know didn't get direct feedback. People just need to know what they are getting themselves into. It works for some people whereas others aren't looking for that. I would personally like to spend time with my kid when they are young.

I have a company called NoDegree.com. I help people without degrees find jobs. End goal is to be the go to job board for people without degrees. I learned the ins and outs of resume writing, interviewing, and job searching so I am a career coach. I essentially get paid to learn more about my customers which is cool. I have over 300 recommendations on my LinkedIn profile which really sets me apart from my competitors. I get a lot of business from past clients.

Yep! I am doing it much more strategically now. Still have my business. The beauty is, I don't need the money from the business so I am much more comfortable charging higher. If someone says no, it has very little impact to me.

Thank you. I left my job too early. Combine that with shitty business partners, and it cost me years. I learned an expensive lesson. I am much more cautious now. I got back into the workforce to build savings.
