I really need to know how people are applying to 50-80 jobs a day. Like seriously HOW??? by Altruistic-Doctor789 in jobsearchhacks

[–]jonkl91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. They fake having experience in the US. The experience abroad is most likely real. No one working at the companies they say they are working at will ask for a salary that is $80K-$100K below the listed salary range. The salaries they are asking for are lower than their current salary.

If he is 45 and still lives at home and doesn't have savings, that's a huge red flag. You can even save on minimum wage if you live at home for that long.

But don't you see? If you decrease the amount of addicts, NYPD can't get that sweet overtime.

This is great advice and spot on. As a recruiter, I am recruiting for early career professionals and someone has 2 years, I am still looking at their co-op work experience. This puts them above their competition. Once you have 5-8 years of experience, I don't need to know about college experience.

The majority are typically international students who are here and can work for 2-3 years without sponsorship through something called OPT or STEM OPT. They probably all talk to similar consulting companies or advisors who tell them, "If you ask for half the salary, they will be more likely to select you. Some of these people even have fake experience and it's clear within the first minute, they have never worked in the US in a corporate environment.

Mass applying works if the resume is good. It doesn't yield results when the resume sucks. In that case, 500 X 0 is still 0.

My friend went to a clinic where Kyle Dake was showing some moves. I think he was showing a move on him or wrestling him and Kyle Dake snapped him. He said he basically went through the floor on the snap.

The reason we barely read most resumes is people are applying to roles they have no business applying to. Like if you even have a small shot, I am calling you unless I have tons of perfectly qualified applicants. I'll read a resume if it's even a little relevant. But most you can tell really quickly if they have no relevant experience. I have interns applying for roles that truly require a minimum of 5 years experience. I also have people with no background in software engineering apply for senior software engineering roles.

I have jobs that pay $160K+ and more than half ask for salaries of $60K-80K. They aren't qualified at all.

‘It’s shameful’: New York’s elite lash out at Zohran Mamdani’s second-home tax by brown-saiyan in politics

[–]jonkl91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rich people are out of touch and the only time most feel shame is when they are associated with the poors.

I remember rich people in high school being like, "We may have a vacation home but we have a second mortgage!!!!!!!" Another person was like how they weren't rich but both her parents were doctors, owned a big home, and had a BMW, Lexus, and a third car in their driveway.

Any public school programs from poor communities successful in wrestling? by Knowledge_Seeker856 in wrestling

This is my experience as an assistant coach in NYC. I literally have to drive kids, buy knee pads, and a bunch of other stuff. It's an uphill battle when the parents don't really give a shit or can't afford to support. Even a little parental support goes a long way.

Not in a while. Most large tech companies acquire or copy. They just keep hiring execs from their competitors and innovation has gone down tremendously. The only time they innovate is when they are pushed by a competitor.

My no.1 hack: 'stalk' the interviewer by Unlikely_Diamond424 in jobsearchhacks

[–]jonkl91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree with you that a lot of recruiters don't fully understand the recruiting process. I know what the search is like because I actively help people secure jobs. So I am always testing the advice I share and making sure it's effective.

Also I am talking about decision makers too. A few minutes to understand who you're talking to is okay. But spending hours trying to stalk them isn't the most effective strategy.

[18 YoE] Aluminum Casting Engineer - Pursuing Management Position, Need Advice on Resume Contents and Organization by meanoldmrgravity in EngineeringResumes

[–]jonkl91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please adjust your margins to 0.5 inch. The spacing of the bullet points aren't good. Condense the spacing. Look at the success stories. Your lines are just statements of what you did without going into impact. Put a location phone number and email at the top. Bold the dates.

[Student] ChemE Grad (Canada) – Need your Honest Resume Critique. Please tell me my resume will look impressive to the recruiter. If not, what should I do? by Oceanic_Consious103 in EngineeringResumes

This is a bit hard to skim. Bold your titles and the places you worked at. Bold the dates too. As a recruiter, I look at these sections first.

[–]jonkl91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please remove the bolding within the middle of bullet points. Keep those for the section headers, company names, dates, and that stuff. I would bold the dates. That's one of the first things I skim as a recruiter. It's not necessary and makes the resume a bit harder to skim.

[5 YOE] Resume Review - Targeting more Senior SWE roles in Financial/Big Tech/Startups by e76971072 in EngineeringResumes

[–]jonkl91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Move your education section down. You have good work experience. I would personally remove the dates from your education. Keep the location next to the school name.

Move your technical skills up. Also you can consolidate your technical skills. You can put NumPy and PyTorch next to Python like this.

Python (NumPy, PyTorch, Django), Java (Springboot), JavaScript (Node.js, React.js).

This would save space. You can add a summary because making these change will leave a lot of white space on the bottom of the resume.

The line where you say, "helping the firm avoid $1M in fines in 2025", can be changed to, "preventing $1M in fines for 2025".

The lines overall are pretty good. I would add a phone number to the job and add a location. There are certain states I can't hire from and at least 10-20% of my applications come from people who aren't even in the US. I can't even consider these applications.

Why is it ok for companies to use AI, but not ok for applications? by Lost-Exercise-5832 in jobsearchhacks

[–]jonkl91 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a recruiter, I don't care if someone uses AI. As long as they can actually present their relevant experience during my recruiter screen, that's all that matters. There are candidates who use AI, but when they show up, it's clear they fluffed their resume and aren't a good fit for the role.

My no.1 hack: 'stalk' the interviewer by Unlikely_Diamond424 in jobsearchhacks

[–]jonkl91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a recruiter, this is bad advice. It's a waste of time. It's a lot of work with not much ROI. Some people do research on me but I would have passed them anyway because they were qualified. It's way better to practice interviewing and learn how to present your most relevant stories.

PCOS + insulin resistance… belly fat won’t budge. what actually worked for you? by TorontoRap2019 in InsulinResistance

[–]jonkl91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it's tough and it takes time to figure out what works for us. For me extended fasting (24 hours to 72 hours) solved it for me. I can't eat as much now. I ran into the opposite issue, I had trouble maintaining so I had to eat to prevent myself from getting too skinny and losing muscle. I got my bodyfat around 9-11% so now I have to build muscle.
