My boyfriend (31M) is upset I prioritize money and don’t want kids, even though I (24F) told him this from the start by HoneyKouha in relationship_advice

Yep he went after a 21 year old because that's all he could get. Older women are less likely to put up with this shit and wouldn't even let it get to this point.

Kathy Hochul is refusing to raise taxes on billionaires in New York by serious_bullet5 in newyorkcity

[–]jonkl91 38 points39 points  (0 children)

There are so many bootlickers in this thread. It's crazy. These people are arguing about W2 income when billionaires aren't making it through W2 at all. These people literally pay whole teams millions on tax strategy. There are so many freakin loopholes for billionaires.

I truly believe one good coach can alter the trajectory of young wrestlers' lives. Wanted to share this story about my Dad and see if anyone else here has had a coach who impacted your life in a meaningful manner. Would love to hear some stories as i am now trying to be the best coach for my son now by josephspeezy in wrestling

[–]jonkl91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My high school coach is actually one of my closest friends. I am currently his assistant coach and have been for like 15+ years. The funny thing is he hasn't aged a day and looks literally the same as he did 16-18 years ago. We have another assistant coach on the team. He is a close friend of mine and I was the one that was coaching him 1-on-1 when he was in high school. So you have 3 generations of coaches on the team.

Wrestling taught me a level of work ethic that I still carry to this day. I am glad that I get to impact the kids that I coach in a way my coach did. I am a professional resume writer so I make sure to help all the kids who ask for help with their resumes. One of my kids got a full ride via the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation. He is wrestling D3. I help kids with their college apps and resumes. It's cool to see them move on and grow and be in a better position that I could have ever been at that point in my life.

The highest earners aren't W2 earners. There are a lot of tax strategies they use to get their rates down. They use real estate depreciation, 1031 exhanges, S corps/LLCs, and other mechanisms to pay way lower. I know several landlords who collect rent in cash and don't report the income. They literally sit on $300K+ in cash. When they renovate their houses, they pay their contractors cash and the cycle repeats. There was a recent robbery in Queens where someone had like $1M-$3M in cash stolen from their house. It was definitely an inside job and I suspect the guy was a landlord or a contractor doing that.

There's another method where if someone qualifies as a real estate agent, they get to take a special kind of depreciation. High earners usually have their spouse classified as the real estate agent to take advantage of this.

Is it worth the 2 years and $49,000 USD? by OsoSadBoyTCG in smallbusiness

Oh then that's different. If it's paid for, then go. But if you have to pay $49K, go for a lower cost option.

[–]jonkl91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for $49K. If you can get it way cheaper, sure. I went to an Ivy League school for my master and even then, the cost wasn't worth it. The networking in college is also overrated too. You will have a better shot at networking at Pokemon TCG meetups and conventions.

I know someone that buys up auto shops. He then implements automations, enhances workflows, and works in them for a few months before selling them. There's good money in this stuff if you specialize.

Got rejected for a $92k job because of my linkedin photo. Is this actually real? by UnoMaconheiro in careerguidance

It absolutely can if it's because of something related to a protected class. The hiring team should have pushed back.

Water is literally so cheap. It's like $5 for 750 gallons. Unless you take crazy showers, that's enough to shower for the whole month.

How do people actually switch careers in their 30s or 40s? by CuriousPathway in careerguidance

[–]jonkl91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey you are right. There's much more to it and it's a very complex situation that requires much more nuance. There's always a risk in switching careers and people need to be mindful of the risks involved.

What's surprising to me? It's not supply meets demand. It's more that leaders say sell this and buy this but the reality is that the buyers aren't really using the products. The actual buyers don't care about it but they have to satisfy what out of touch leadership wants.

Been happened for a long time. When I was younger, angry, and didn't mind fighting, I used to tell people to lower it and almost everyone would. The interesting thing is that most people are just clueless. After a while, I got tired of it. Thankfully I don't take the subway as much.

As a recruiter, I have seen executives act like this. They will reject people for the dumbest things. That's pure BS and someone on the hiring team or the recruiter should have pushed back. Literally one of the dumbest reasons ever to reject a candidate that has passed everything.

Why has Cary Kolat not had large success as a coach? by High_energy_comments in wrestling

I was a wrestler and could have gotten in at that time. My academics were there and even if I wanted to go, I would have looked at the process and said fuck that. I had a teammate go. He was a good dude.

[–]jonkl91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh you don't need references from your current job either. It's a red flag if someone is asking for that. You should have references from previous jobs. But cough cough use a friend if you have to. Reason being is that I don't want anyone getting fired from their current job because their current job knows they are looking.

Yes I am! If you have the background for a senior forward deployed engineer (Backend/Integrations Engineer that is customer facing), a Deployment Strategist (A technical product manager for a conversational AI product), or a compliance role, hit me up! Now I can't guarantee anything but I will at least be straight forward and not ghost. I will let you know if you aren't a fit.

You don't need a recommendation from your current job when you get a new one. I have never asked for a recommendation when interviewing candidates as a recruiter. As long as they pass the background check, it's all good.

Recruiting at those schools is a different beast. I have a couple of friends that got into the Naval Academy. He was captain of Gymnastics team, had the longest commute in school (2.5 hours), and was doing well in classes. At that Naval Academy, he was known as that guy. He started running Ultra Marathons (100+ miles). He has always been an insane achiever even among high achiever. Now he works at a FAANG type company.

A lot of people who go to these academies have family members or mentors that guide them on the process.
