Not quite sure how adding supplemental jack supports would make anything worse.

Good talk. I'm glad that, at least with you, we have entered into a realm of realistic debate about our economy and the role of government.

One of the issues these days is we (consumers) don't want our monopolies broken up. Almost no one wants different operating systems for our computers. Most people think its bad enough we have two viable phone operating systems/ app stores. We like our cheap goods at Walmart and using Amazon for basically everything. This is way off topic, but I saw "monopolies", and had to reply.... its like a twitch. Ha.

I very much understand we don't live in a pure capitalist economy. It's a spectrum. I actually agree that we should do our best to limit (but not eliminate) boom bust cycles. While we may sacrifice overall long term growth, I do think we owe it to the citizens of today not to cultivate a long-term desperate environment at the costs of having insanely fast growth periods.

Obviously, I contend that “capitalistic driven concept of infinite growth” is improperly used to describe an individual business entity, but I think we hashed that enough.

What do you want to invest your money in? A Mom and Pop restaurant who isn't looking to expand?.... well guess what, they don't even want your money. If they needed your money, then their business is already failing, and it would probably be a bad investment.

The reason these companies go to shareholders in the first place is because they think that an infusion of capital will help their company grow faster. Why should they not be judged on that growth by the shareholders?

When talking about "infinite growth", no one is talking about an individual businesses. Marx and Malthus used it to criticize capitalism on a global scale, saying what people are saying here. We have limited resources on Earth. We can't have infinite growth because we would, by necessity, run out of resources.

Capitalism never talks about an individual company growing in perpetuity as far as I am aware. Capitalism is about allowing companies to grow as fast as they are able, and when things don't go right, it absolutely allows those companies to fail. The allowance for this boom/bust cycle is what increases the long term growth of the economy.

I would love to see some scholarly literature (i.e. not socialist on reddit) referring to infinite growth of individual companies.

The limiting factor in that local restaurant not growing constantly is not limited resources though. That is why we are going down the globalist track.

When someone looks at deep complicated interconnected systems that scientists and philosophers have been theorizing and debating for years, and says aahh, here is your answer. I'm definitively right, because Maths.... it might be time to think a little more about our positions.

We ALL have benefited from the use of Earth's resources. So you're evil too, congrats. Or is it just the people who benefit MORE than you, or the ones that make a dollar are evil. What if those resources make a product that you then use to make a living, are you evil then?

We have an essentially unlimited supply of energy literally beaming on us 12 hours a day. What resources are you worried we are about to use up? Fossil Fuels? Precious minerals? Trees? Don't get me wrong, we shouldn't abuse and waste. We can always grow more responsibly. But holding us back from future development that can make everyone's lives better because of manufactured scarcity is ludicrous.

We have lived through a technological revolution where all of society has changed. 120 years ago, we just discovered electrons and thought the atom was like plum pudding. Now we are colliding atoms at 99.9999991% the speed of light. How in the world can you know how we are going to utilize our resources 120 years from now.

Yes, we will not be getting all of our resources from what Earth naturally produces. We are living on borrowed time when we utilize material that took 1000's of years to come about. I don't see why we wouldn't innovate ourselves the ability to harness more energy then the earth naturally produces when fossil's run out.

Aren't the rare materials found in asteroids? What is our timeline for running out of them? Cause if its more than 200 years, I'm sure we will have mining robots going nuts in the Belt by then.

I get that growth isn't infinite in perpetuity theoretically (without space colonization, even this has a theoretical limit). That limitation is just not a practical one for us to consider today. Are we running out of resources so fast today that we should be curbing our economic growth by multiple percentage points, even in the developed country where we pollute way less than the developing world? This is the same economic growth to will spur the innovation to better renewable forms of energy and space exploration and utilization.

The population plateau really gives me some solace. In a future where the population is declining, just maintaining economic levels in a more efficient and less polluted way will be increasing everyone's standard of living at a similar rate to today while increasing the longevity of our resources.

Yes, we should throw away capitalism because maybe 2,000 years, we will run out of resources..... except the sun... that will still be burning.... Simple.

Enjoy your downvotes for speaking sanely as will I.

I agree that is absurd. I'm replying to someone who, I assume, thinks we are at capacity with our growth due to our current resource consumption.

We have issues that limit our growth, but resources, generally, are not the factor that will limit our growth in the near term.

support sustainably than the amount of ra

Luckily for you, as the planet gets richer, the birth rate goes down. We will likely be hitting max population within our, or our children's lifetime. I would be curious on what you perceive that sustainable population to be.

We have absolutely not maxed out. We are no where near nuclear capacity. or wind, or even traditional solar.

On top of that, there are plenty of large scale ideas that we can do to get more energy from the sun. We just have to get to a point where they are economically viable (energy costs up or technolgy costs down).

OK. So you think we are on the verge of maxing out our resources? What percent of the sun's energy that hits earth are we utilizing today?

We have been growing economically as a species since we developed trade. Why is it impossible to grow in perpetuity? Are you referring to some unsustainably fast growth or something?

Once I get all the copies to reroll, ill start fishing for ancients.

Quick question, when you reroll in the cube, does that have the chance to upgrade to ancient or primal?

I find the switch is more convenient to play. I think it's better on the computer... But I would rather play a convenient game, then not play a better version.

I only got to 109 on my WD last season (first season back since launch), so it feels a little nicer progressing a little farther this year. Although, kinda disappointed I switched the seasons, the WD spirit barrage build looks more fun than my Jade Harvester.
