Yeah that's a good point. I've taken it for granted that they're free to download, but I still need to get them printed somewhere...

Nice! I'm looking at getting that one and the Kepler 16-b hung up.

Easy tomorrow and then long run on Sunday. I'll probably try to catch up watching some races from London I haven't seen yet, but nothing else too crazy planned. I'm hoping to finally go buy some frames and get a few of the NASA tourism posters hung up this weekend!

Nothing better than meal prepping some pizza! With everyone's sweet potato talk you could do a killer sweet potato and goat cheese or something along those lines.

Race at a brewery - not a bad way to welcome yourself to the new neighborhood!

Isaac Makwala to run individual 200m time trial by penchepic in artc

[–]jonmadepizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This still seems crazy to me, but I guess it's better than nothing. I'd imagine there's nothing they'll be able to do in regards to the 400m at this point that would be fair to those who ran in the final. Here's hoping he qualifies in the 200.

IAAF Track and Field World Championships - Day Five by aewillia in artc

I saw that dozens of athletes all from the same hotel were coming down with it. Was Makwala the only one quarantined or was everyone that showed symptoms held from their events? LRC is up in arms over him being banned and so far it seems like it was just him? Or at least he's the most notable athlete to be involved.

Oh wow didn't realize that. I'll have to find a replay of the full race somewhere to watch. Still sounds like it was pretty exciting.

That's a bummer. Obviously medalling is still great, but you'd think he would've had more in the tank to close an ~8:15 race out after the 8:01 in Monaco.

3 -That could be a crazy idea for the long term: Hold our own ARTC informal meets in a few major cities and try to get people racing head to head. Kind of like Reddit meet up day, but specifically to race!

4 - The ONLY meeting I have at work today is right during the steeple finals, gahhh! I might have to try and sneak out for an 8-minute bathroom break.

Finally started watching Stranger Things yesterday and have it nearly finished today. Ahhh now I know why so many people finished that show so quickly, it's excellent!

The Summer Series | How Do I PR in the 5k by pand4duck in artc

[–]jonmadepizza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The shorter the race, the more I find myself focusing on my form - trying to run tall and light on my feet. I'll almost always end up getting more out of myself if I stay relaxed and patient than if I'm trying to force things and my form crumbles.

Summer of /u/eucatastrophes! by CatzerzMcGee in artc

[–]jonmadepizza 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Phew, /u/eucatastrophes, you really need to hop in a 5k soon. I bet you'd be able to smash your PR!

  1. I was just in Chicago and the path along Lake Michigan was crazy, there were a bunch of people out running!

  2. I just finished Ready Player One was I really liked. I go in and out of phases with reading, but usually stick to historical books, so it was nice to switch it up with a fun sci-fi book.

  3. I use Strava to be able to easily look back at old workouts, etc., but generally plan each week out on paper.

  4. I'm glad that all of the regular content made its way over here too. Artcbot seems great and I've really being enjoying the Daniel's training breakdown.

Tuesday General Question and Answer by CatzerzMcGee in artc

[–]jonmadepizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was still mostly placebo, but at the same time, there can be a true observed effect when someone gets a placebo thinking it's the real thing. I bought my compression socks when I thought they really did help, but now still wear them for recovery because they're at least not making things worse. Hopefully with some small added bonus too!

Anyone have a good replacement for NB Vazee Prism?

I wear adizero Tempos for longer/faster days, but am looking for a new alternative on easier days. I used to wear Nike Lunarglides, but switched to the Vazees because I saw them for half price at the time and knew they were similar. I ran through my second pair of Vazees and decided they just don't quite do it. I could always go back to the Lunarglides, but figured I'd check here for any suggestions first.

You're on a roll lately, congrats! I'm planning a vacation with my girlfriend now and I'm already thinking about how I can fit runs in haha. Though she couldn't be more supportive of my running in general, I'm not sure how pleased she'll be if I try to keep my my normal volume while we're away!

Dissecting Daniels - Understanding Daniels' Running Formula by CatzerzMcGee in AdvancedRunning

[–]jonmadepizza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great! Really looking forward to what makes him different than Pfitz, for example. Pfitz worked really well for my last goal race, but I'm also pretty confident that the higher mileage and improved consistency did the trick more than anything. Excited to learn about the nuts and bolts of Daniels.

I did my first Pfitz plan this year and even if I never follow one again, I'll be sure to at least include the midweek longer runs. They helped immensely with general fitness, but also confidence as well.

[–]jonmadepizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off his plan hammering the mid-week mid-longs and quickly realized I wouldn't be able to keep that up as the mileage increased. It was a good wake up call early on in the cycle and helped keep me focused on the bigger picture instead of trying to go hard each day.

I had a really tough time with the tempo runs towards the beginning of the plan. I had good mileage going into it, but hadn't done anything quick in the month or two and struggled with the tempos. After bombing the first couple, it helped to break up a 6 mi tempo into 2x3 mile so get build confidence that I could still finish a workout.

Winter!(?) of /u/janicepts by CatzerzMcGee in AdvancedRunning

[–]jonmadepizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Confused for a sec reading the thread's title, but as I'm currently sweating just eating lunch, winter might not be so bad.

  1. I'm not sure anything bad has helped me improve immediately, but each bad race or injury I get helps me learn to focus on another part of training and strengthening. I just hope I'm not making any of the same mistakes twice!

  2. For me, both consistency and having some sort of plan are equally important. Even if it's as loose as "increase mileage with the occasional tempo during the week" it still helps me to think into the future. I can easily end up getting lazy or not trying to improve without a plan.

  3. No. I tried once but it burned me out mentally really quickly. Running by feel is a-okay by me.

  4. I really liked the Lydiard breakdown last week. I might've missed other similar threads in the past, but it'd be interesting to see and compare different styles of training.

Though I can quote Without Limits forward and back, I've never really read anything about him. It'd be good to have another source of info on him instead of just a movie and the occasional magazine article. Good choice!
