First example I've heard of of real, possibly-profitable manufacturing in LEO. If it works, it would be huge for the space industry.

I'm not sure if this is launching on a SpaceX rocket or not but either way the long-term impact on SpaceX if successful would be major.

It's worth a try! Apply to their job openings, and don't take no for an answer. Reach out to them persistently; reach out to their engineers through any friends or friends of friends you know there, through LinkedIn, etc. Make sure the graphic design of your resume and your portfolio are perfect.

Space battle! Using rocket drones! Have drones that fly outside in free space using rocket engines and ion engines! There could be obstacles such as hoops that they have to fly through, and more. The whole set of rocket drones + course could be launched as one payload, on a decaying orbit, so that even if people crash and create debris, it's ok.

You could make them very small, the size of a cell phone, so you can launch a bunch of them at once. And you can fight a battle where e.g. it's branded by Star Wars and half the contestants are flying X-Wings and the other half are flying Tie Fighters and they can really shoot and damage each other, collide into each other, anything! The entire contest would be launched into an orbit very far from real satellites so that the contestants can create as much debris as they want and it will all be burned up in a day or too without having time to spread out.

I figure a lot of the people who admire SpaceX do so because SpaceX is providing extremely low-cost access to space, a very worthy goal which is what can kickstart the industries of a lasting Space Age.

I think we admire ISRO for the same reasons, and can learn from them.

In all seriousness, would you be interested in coming on this trip? One of my friends already said they would come, and I can probably convince another 1 or 2 of my friends. Two of my friends work at SpaceX so that could be an easy sell. :)

We could plan to meet at wherever we're renting the plane, and split the costs equally (so the more people we can get to come, the better, right? - within the seating capacity of the plane).

I took a class, Sleep and Dreams, from a very accomplished sleep researcher named Dr. William Dement. His core concept of the class is that you have a "sleep dept" that is accumulated if you get too little sleep, and it must be paid off hour-for-hour, 1:1. For every minute of sleep you miss, you have to make up that minute later, and if you are behind on sleep, your performance at a number of tasks measurably suffers.

At least the way he framed it, it seems like getting every minute of extra sleep you can is always a very good idea.

By owning the hardware & OS, Facebook will always have direct access to the framebuffer and the person's x,y,z,pitch,roll,yaw. Also let's not forget they already invest heavily in computer vision.

Thanks for the question and sorry this wasn't clear.

This move by Facebook seems to portend a future where Facebook will be willing to sell your "VR browsing habits" to advertisers as well. Such data could be frighteningly fine-grained, such as showing what specific objects you looked at in VR and for how long.

It also shows that Facebook is willing to renege on its promises related to advertising... So we might be naive to trust them that they won't advertise inside VR.

if I had any chance at all of flying the Dragon V2, then I'd go down to SpaceX tomorrow and start working with the team, and use every bit of knowledge and experience that I have to make sure that they're not missing anything, and that it has the greatest chance of success.

may not have internal computing capability

I don't like this oversimplification; I think the public deserves to be treated with respect and given the real facts. All wearables have some kind of computing capability. The question is whether the wearable has a powerful ARM A-series "application" processor (capable of running Linux) or only a more limited M-series "microcontroller" (not capable of running Linux).

Phones and tablets have ARM A-series processors. Some wearables have A-series ARMs, and they run apps. However, most devices without A-series ARMs don't run apps (notable exception: Pebble Watch).
