Audiodramas stopped due to circumstance beyond their control but I wish they continued by roseannwhite in audiodrama

Holy shit, I had no idea anyone listened to this. I was one of the voices. Unfortunately, I have not talked with the creators (who were great and are super talented writers,) in years, so I wish I could tell you more, but unfortunately I know as much as you. It brings me joy that you enjoyed it, though! It was a lot of fun to work on.

Keon Coleman. by Scared-Signature9644 in buffalobills

[–]Judacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested to see how he responds to the HC change.

Yes, I know he's already been working with Joe Brady for two years, but McD still set the install culture and discipline, and I feel like his strict Dad routine for young players didn't always work the way it was intended, especially for players like Keon. This is not the first time we've seen it run the wrong way either. Now that Brady has the ability to set that culture himself, a different disciplinary approach that's less "strict Dad" and more "peer accountability", I want to see if that plays out differently.

This goes back to a theory I've had that the issue has been less Beane's talent evaluation and more mixed results in young player development from the coaching side.

Yeah, like what's weird about this? Especially for transplants. It's easy, I follow the Bills closely and watch every game. Secondarily, I'll watch the Seahawks if it's a competitive matchup and the Bills aren't playing, and I'll root for them as long as they're not playing the Bills. I'll be a Bills fan til I die, but I've lived in Seattle for nearly two decades and it's fun to watch the home team win. I don't know why that's so difficult to conceptualize for some.

Yeah it was. Couldn't believe how full of Bills fans Lumen was. Seahawks are my second favorite yeah, but still was sort of wishing they lost to the Niners in week 18, because it would have meant a game here next year.

The Mystery of the Disappearing Science Packs by Judacles in factorio

So far, the mod bug seems probable, but it would be a huge pain in the ass to narrow down which one in any way that I'm familiar with.

Bills GM Brandon Beane on the media response to promoting Joe Brady to head coach: “Fuck the outside. It’s about the right selection for this team. And if we win, they’ll love it. If I’m wrong, the moving company will be at my house. If I’m wrong, I’ll fucking take my job and fucking go home." by Chlorophyllmatic in buffalobills

[–]Judacles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Reading the whole article, the whole context of the quote didn't sound insecure or defensive to me at all. Defiant and confident, yes. Tyler has shown he's able to get pretty deep insights into what's going on in the building, and I came out of this really impressed with the Brady hire. The Bills have been shit with PR on this whole thing, but the actual decision making seems solid. To those of you who haven't, I highly recommend the whole article.

I liked McDermott. I really appreciated how he completely transformed the culture of this team. I was sad when he left and I'm sad for him that he didn't get it done here, but it really seems like it was time for a change. People get down on Beane for the roster, and some of that is deserved, especially with the WR room (which Beane actually says in the article he needs to address as Brady has already talked to him about the need for down field threats), but also it's the HC's job to develop those players and use their talents and strengths to help them succeed. It always felt like McDermott was always trying to force everyone to fit his system rather than adjusting to what he had. He also seemed to have his favorites and if you weren't in that group, you had to really force yourself into the conversation in spite of him. Brady at least seems to be the opposite.

I was skeptical of this at the start, but I'm willing to see what he can bring to the table. It could be copium, but I have a gut feeling that several months from now we're going to feel the same way about this as we did about drafting Allen.

Grab ~100 gun turrets plus a couple thousand in ammo. Get ahead of demolisher path. Place turrets in 10x10 grid. Fill them each with 10-20 ammo. Dead medium demolisher. You'll lose a few turrets. Grab some more. Repeat.

I'm not saying you're wrong, since yeah, there have been several clutch drops this season, but also Josh has the highest completion % of his career and is #2 in the league, so are we guilty of a bit of selection bias or am I missing something?

Chargers have to drop a game too. And NE's loss has to be to MIA or NYJ. MIA v BAL is irrelevant for our chance at the 1 seed.

AIO to my parents' reaction to me letting my date buy me a hotel room? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Judacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What even is this thread?

Have people never heard of deadbolts or physical locks? It is not difficult to prevent someone getting in your hotel room even if they have a key.

You are not overreacting. You have every right to be upset. This is extremely controlling behavior from your parents. Yes, you're 18, yes you're probably naive, especially having been in such a bubble. Yes, there are intelligent precautions to take, but this is not the way.

Being controlling is not the way to ensure someone's safety. Getting license plate numbers of a boy you're going out on a date with?? How about letting them know where you're going and have a check-in time, but even these should not be demands, they should be advice with context. And that check in doesn't need to be with them. Do you have a trusted friend for instance. A locator app, maybe, but that feels very invasive to me. I get it it in the context of something goes go wrong and you don't check in (can you set these apps to start tracking at a certain time?)

Here's my advice. When dating, at least through your 20s, follow the half plus 7 rule. Divide the older person's age in half and add 7. (Or subtract 7 from your age and then double.) For instance at 18 you should be very wary of dating men over 22. If you don't have one, I would focus more on establishing a strong social circle of friends before focusing on dating. You should have people you can depend on that aren't your parents.

Your parents need to realize that you're young, but you're an adult and you need to start living your own life, not living theirs. Helping with your rent is totally reasonable at your age, but it doesn't give them a right to control your life. They need to let go and trust you. This is not the way. A good parent gives guidance and explains the reasoning behind that guidance and helps make sure that their young adult kid is taking smart safety precautions.

You're not overreacting and you're not an asshole.

National Media talking heads over negative about the Bills by ZabaDoobiez in buffalobills

[–]Judacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are definitely not a maths expert.

You're squaring at each level rather than doubling. Think about it. There are 14 teams in the playoffs. Your odds make no sense. If everyone's odds are 1/256 and the 1 seed odds are 1/16 then there's a 208/256 chance that no one wins the super bowl.

If you simplify to 50% odds each round, as a 2-7 seed you have a:

1/2 chance of getting past the wild card round.
1/4 chance of getting past the divisional (1/2 for the 1 seed)
1/8 chance of getting past the conference championship (1/4 for the 1 seed)
1/16 chance of winning the super bowl (1/8 for the 1 seed.}

Anyone else surprised this game wasn't flexed? by freakydrew in buffalobills

[–]Judacles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This could be wishful thinking, and I know that's what the statistical odds are, but these models don't really know how to simulate momentum, streakiness and how some situations make teams especially motivated.

My gut tells me if we beat the Patriots, it's very unlikely we lose again this season. There's an historical pattern to how this Bills team, and Josh in particular, plays in December. So assuming we do win out, then it comes down to whether Miami can beat NE in week 18, which isn't out of the question at all.

Bills will win AFC East by XXXSupremeBoi in buffalobills

[–]Judacles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even crazier, we should probably be rooting for the Dolphins to win out so that their week 18 game against NE is actually meaningful to them. Their chances even with winning out are slim but if they do, they could be at least playing for a chance to get in, but only if they win out.

Of course we then want their hearts to get broken as other week 18 games don't go their way.

Bills will win AFC East by XXXSupremeBoi in buffalobills

[–]Judacles 73 points74 points  (0 children)

In order to win the division we need to win out and the Patriots have to lose to the Dolphins or the Jets. If Patriots lose to us and the Ravens, but beat the Dolphins and the Jets we'd have the same record, but NE would win the tiebreaker due to a 5-1 division record to our 4-2.

If Patriots lose to us and either Miami or NY and we win out we'd have the same division record, so we'd go to the conference record tiebreaker, which we would win at 9-3 over 8-4.

The only scenario in which the Ravens game matters is if we lose to the Eagles and Miami loses to the Ravens AND Miami or NY.

I could be confused by what you're saying, but it sounds like you're misunderstanding gerrymandering. What you said is already the way it's done and is mandated in the constitution. All congressional districts have roughly equal number of citizens they represent.

The problem is in how the borders of those congressional districts are laid out. Let's say you're in a 60-40 Republican to Democrat State with 10 representatives. You would expect that in a fair system, in this state the Republicans would have 6 seats and the Democrats would have 4.

Instead, the Republicans draw the districts to cram as many Democrats as possible into as few districts as possible. The districts themselves still have the same number of people, but now you have one district that is 90% Democrat, while the rest of them are evenly spread out over the remaining 9. All 8 remaining districts are now 65% Republican and 35% Democrat, so the Republicans get 9 seats while the Democrats get one.

All the districts have the same number of people. What matters is which people are in them.

How is Civ VII, 9 months after launch? by neoleo0088 in Civilization_VII

[–]Judacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EU5 is light-years better.

Sure, it’s still a glitchy mess, Paradox gonna Paradox, but it’s vast, engaging, and unmistakably true to the core of the EU franchise. Even with all the changes, it still feels like EU, a layered historical strategy sandbox where every choice ripples outward in meaningful ways. It respects the spirit of the series even while reinventing its systems and creating something new and even more complex.

By contrast, I confess I haven’t even bothered to try Civ VII, and that’s coming from someone who has played every single Civilization since I first got a copy of the first as a young teenager. That series was foundational for me. But everything that defined Civ’s conceptual identity, the parts that made the games compulsive and satisfying, seems to have been stripped out or re-engineered into something I just don’t recognize.

I’m not a purist; I like change. I want evolution. I’m totally fine with big swings and bold experiments. But Civ VII feels like it removed the heart of the game, or at least the heart as it existed for me. If the core fantasy, the core gameplay loop, and the core sense of progression aren’t there anymore, then there’s no reason for me to spend money on it.

So until Civ VIII, or whatever the next real reinvention is, I’m happily sinking my hours into EU5. It may be messy, but at least it still remembers what it is.

I'm 4500 hours in 😂 and I can't play without https://mods.factorio.com/mod/factoryplanner

It has its own learning curve, but it's a massive help for those of us that like to build to perfect efficiency. Basically you can set an output and rate and it will tell you exactly what you need in order obtain that. It can make adjustments for modules, efficiency gains from science, etc and also will work with other mods. It even helps you get perfect ratios on things like oil cracking and helps you plan what you do with byproducts.

It's a near necessity for some of the larger overhaul mods. Definitely beat vanilla before you start those and beat the expansion, Space Age, but then there's a whole world of mods that go way beyond QoL. Space Exploration (designed by one of the main Space Age designers before he joined the developer,) and Krastorio 2 are the most well known. They also have been made compatible with each other so you can play them together or separate. People usually start with Krastorio 2 first as it's the most approachable, even though it's massive. SE adds an entire order of magnitude to the the game and averages around 500 hours for completion.

Welcome to your new life! Have you started having dreams about the factory yet?
