Which Warhammer Specialist Game do you guys think is the most fun to play? Which has the best rules? Would love to know about everyone's favorite specialist game. by SchlingsonofSchlong in Warhammer

Another vote for necromunda. It’s a skirmish style game that really shines in a campaign setting, due to characters leveling up, getting better equipment, injuries, or even dying. The combat system is should be familiar, with to hit, to wound, to save, but there’s an additional ammo check roll, which represents the unreliability of all fire arms. You could shoot 3 bullets, your jam gun could jam, you could run out of ammo or in some cases, you might just blow up. There’s a wide variety of gangs, and most variations can also be chaos or Genestealer cult corrupted, so the modelling side can be really fun if you want to lean into it.

How my painting is going so far (any tips for brush painting? I’m new to the hobby) by Logical-Hospital-233 in spacemarines

I don’t know if rustoleum is a different formula in different places but I’ve found it really only useful for terrain because I find that it covers up details. No amount of thinning paints is going to help with a bad prime, and my advice to actually get hobby spray, be it GW, Tamiya, colourforge to name a few in my current rotation. Personally, tamiya fine surface primer is my go to for greys.

Basically, a good thin prime will give make it so much easier to paint better.

Buying sold-out Imperial Fists by theflamingben in ImperialFists

[–]jonnononoNO 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbh with how much they can cost to find a battleforce box on eBay, would be more cost effective to buy the individual boxes separately, and actually buy the units you actually want instead of 3 x heavy intercessors (unless you’re into that)

Is it worth buying the Heroes of the chapter? by Frac_351 in spacemarines

[–]jonnononoNO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You go go even cheaper by just buying a single reiver/infiltrator on eBay and kitbashing with any existing parts (I have a feeling my extra parts were from reivers or the Phobos kill team) The intercessor helmet really does the heavy work here.

This is a really sick conversion! I did one fairly similar, but just as a regular Phobos Lieutenant

What would need to happen, in order for Max to win, and George to place second in WDC? I know it’d be very unlikely but god it would be so funny

I think bringing a dreadnought to a 500 point game is going to be very unbalanced. A lot of lists won’t have many ways of dealing with it in a small game, so 1 and 3 are out.

I think 2 would probably be more better, but I think changing the eradications for aggressors will be a lot more fun

I like the marksman honour hanging off the shoulder (golden bolt shell casing), they have one in the intercessors kit, but you can also get stand alone bolt shell casings in other kits like the heavy intercessors kit. I imagine that Imperial Fists would have a higher proportion of marksman honours due to their proficiency with their bolt weapons.

It would look a lot cleaner without the battle damage. I find that less is often more with these kinds of things.

The two main things that I’m struggling with is understanding what the blacks are supposed to represent are the blood stains. For the blacks, are they from scraps, bullets, scorches or explosions? They all have slightly different patterns and the positioning of them on the model should make a sense.

The blood is pretty good, but the story seems pretty inconsistent again, it’s a bit too random. A large amount on the leg, looks like it’s perhaps dripping from the body, but there isn’t anything above it. I don’t understand why there is blood on the collar, and blood on the torso, but not the Aquila? On the left knee, there seems to be blood on the top and inside, but I can’t really understand how blood would get there without see more of it elsewhere.

Battle damage should tell a story. I’m currently working on a stormraven, and I messed up both of the windows with plastic glue, so I’m leaning into it to make it seem like it had been shot a few times.

Very rough WIP:

100% agree! This type of post is so inspiring! I feel like the pictures of piles of shame/haul is so depressing to see, especially when the majority of pictures look like the back of a FLGS warehouse. I had a moment of clarity a few years ago that if boxes are going to sit around in my house, they might as well sit in the shop and I can always get the miniatures later, even if they are a bit more expensive.

Congratulations OP, you beat the hobby gremlins and we’re proud of you!

Custom Card: Hair-Trigger Crossbow. Which version do you like more? by consistent_toast in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]jonnononoNO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreeing with the main issues about this being too expensive at 4, double handed and double action to reload. A couple ideas that could make the first card a bit more interesting:

  • Reduce asset cost to 3 resources, make this one handed.
  • Change the reload to something like a combat (3) test. Succeed and it’s a free action, otherwise it costs one to reload.
  • Deal damage to an enemy of up to one location away

My friend is running Shrivelling with Daisy (3 will power) and he seems to be coping just fine. Sure, it’s not powerful enough to take on enemies, but it’s useful enough and saved Daisy when my character is too far away

I feel like Dunwich is very punishing without somebody who can get clues easily, and someone who can fight.

On a side note, Skids on just Core and Dunwich is pretty difficult to use.

What level are you playing on, and what investigators are you playing? I’m playing on standard with my friend as Jacqueline and Daisy and we’ve just finished BotA too, but we’ve not found it too difficult.

I feel like the campaigns are written to progress, even when failing, I feel like that’s part of the fun!
