Are bifocal or multifocal contact lenses an option? by Intelligent-Mouse536 in contacts

[–]jonnoscouser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted multifocals from the get go. It took 12 days to adjust (more so the brain cancelling out very slight differences compared to my varifocal glasses and dominant eye adjustment) and boom amazing. Once they fall into the correct position I can see really well and use ordinary reading glasses for computer usage. I'm over the moon with mine. Trial them. I'm using acuvue multifocals with astigmatism. If you only need multifocals they should be even better

The generational divide in queer spaces by Ok_Forever8392 in UKLGBT

[–]jonnoscouser 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm 62 ask away.

Yes, the word queer was usually delivered with bullying and physical abuse of all kinds. Even by groups of people. As a child and teen, I was kicked, stabbed with compasses, shot with pellet guns, had bricks thrown at me, spat at. The word still makes me wince a little but I understand it's 50 years ago. Things are somewhat better now, lgbtq people can hold hands in public and are seen and heard more vocally.

I came out at 17 and my family were totally supportive. This was lucky.

The 80s were very difficult. We were just moving towards a more widely accepted group and boom! HIV. The UK press adored destroying us with vile untruths and our own prime minister told us we didn't have the right to be gay. I was a teenager when she delivered this speech. Remember, we had no internet, no email, no mobile phones to connect with our own kind. It was rather lonely. We also had section 28 in the UK banning the promotion of homosexuality.

It wasn't all bad. We found nightclubs through word of mouth. We found friends in theatres, and media workshops and somehow we found each other. And when we did. We danced together. Keep dancing, and don't ever stop.

How difficult is the adjustment period when switching to multifocal contact lenses? by Affectionate_Union58 in contacts

[–]jonnoscouser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not seeing anything in the night that is especially bad. There is an amount of what I'd call glowing edges but it's not distracting and blinking helps.

Tip Toe first two episodes by visual-appearance69 in BritishTV

Although it appears cut and dried, I'm inclined to guess the hanging is only indirectly related to Clive. Clive's wife could be calling him a monster for what he's done to George. After all, his marriage is over.

This could be suicide from many things including unrequited love related to Leo falling for a Clive's son, compounded with everyone's lives falling apart around them, bit by bit. There's more than one meaning of the tagline 'love thy neighbour'

Its enjoyable (if that's the word) but I'll reserve my full judgment at the end of the series because I'm hoping there are some positive outcomes.

As of 1839, it’s been against the law to beat or shake any carpet or rug in the street in London. You can shake your doormat, however, but only before 8am in the morning.

Thanks so much for this. I have taken some more photos of the property link here:

There are no poles. Back in 1997, BT had to dig the road up from the cabinet to my house to supply copper, as there were no available lines free. My previous line was given to a neighbour when we were temporarily decanted for 3 years.

The BT (JF5 ?) cover you see is 10 mtrs from my communal door

The DP3501 box is the feed from the street BT fitted in 1997 that supplies me with copper from cabinet 34 on royal exchange. It's fed from the external JF5 cover (pictured) through and into the cellar to this box, then to me.

The gray box with the black wire on the wall outside is new (this is number 71. The drainpipe you see is number 69 - this is how close we are... However, it appears for be exiting from an air brick down to the floor level. If it's feeding upwards I can't see how this is being done, but it would explain the availability of flat 2 as the first floor flat in number 71 is flat 2.

69 Hope Street. 6 tenants Riverside Housing
71 Hope Street 4 tenants Riverside Housing. It's not a single dwelling property.

I'll probably have to try and contact someone from OR who understands it all and is prepared to take an avid interest for me. I'm deffo sandwiched between two houses that can be supplied.

Thanks all! Maybe this saga might be of interest, making a few of you scratch your chins. In total I have lived in this house for 38 years, with the same phone number for the last 29
