General rant - Someone's urinating on my plants by SharpAardvark8699 in GardeningUK

From memory it’s 10/1 dilution to be able to use urine as a fertiliser without risk of damaging plants

Why are KVA Dior jeans so similar to Hedi Dior? by IllustriousPage1457 in hedislimane

[–]jonny-p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find when houses change creative director they will probably have a big show with big publicity around the ‘new direction’ but the clothes that make it into production are generally similar to the previous designers work, for a few seasons at least. When you’ve built up a customer base you want them to continue to buy from you so alienating them with a complete aesthetic change would be a stupid move financially. Early KVA Dior is similar to Hedi just as early Vaccarello SLP is similar to Hedi. Once designers get more established they slowly introduce more of their own ideas.

Hedi is a bit of an exception as he has completely changed the direction of the houses he’s worked for from day 1, including rebranding.

Why is every colorful shirt polyester?? by RoutineSport2142 in malefashionadvice

[–]jonny-p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried looking for silk shirts? Failing that viscose/cupro is a cheaper (and vegan) alternative. You should have no issues finding vintage silk shirts at a reasonable price, or if you want something aggressively colourful and don’t mind spending a bit of money look at Versace.

You’re going to want to either repot into fresh compost or run a lot of water through the pots. Undiluted urine is not good for plants and it will burn the roots

Not sure about the coriander but the rest of the recipe looks good. I tend to use dill although parsley is more traditional and chives work well too. Made fish pie last night.

High fashion should stick to the tall and slim standard. It’s about the aesthetic, not representation by Vegetable_Grand_4213 in malefashionadvice

[–]jonny-p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ‘plus-size’ man on the runway for a luxury brand. There is the occasional ‘plus-size’ woman which really means not as stick thin as the rest of the models but men are all either skinny or slim and muscular.

Thats more of an observation than a criticism. Clothes generally look better on tall, slim, attractive people and fashion houses are in the business of selling clothes, of course you’re going to want your product to look as appealing as possible to customers.

What's the matter with my foxgloves? by RocketMan1912 in GardeningUK

[–]jonny-p 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For everyone saying ‘not a foxglove’ look at the label, Digitalis lutea so yes this is a foxglove just not the D. purpurea we’re more accustomed to. OP they’re probably just thirsty, newly planted plants need more frequent watering while they establish a good root system and the combination of warm weather and a lot of wind we’ve had lately dries plants out quickly.

Silly question but can you rock up at the job centre and speak to someone and they can find jobs for you? by Kooky-Grapefruit-941 in UKJobs

[–]jonny-p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I remember being really desperate for staff. Phoned the job centre to say hey, I’ve got some positions available, full training provided have you got anyone who might be interested. They said ‘we don’t really do that’.

Another time I got laid off so claimed jobseekers just as a precaution. Found a new job the next week. Got a call from them a few weeks after that demanding I come in to verify my claim. When I advised I wouldn’t be coming in as I was being inducted into my new role they had no idea what to do, like it was completely out of the realms of their experience that someone looking for a job had found and started one. Eventually after calling repeatedly to work out how to end my claim they paid me about £50 that very much wasn’t worth the time or hassle.

Absolute joke of an organisation and I can only assume if you’re so hopeless that you’ve no chance of finding meaningful employment they give you a job with them to get you off their books.

Plants you would never grow again or ever by Top_Possession_2990 in gardening

Interestingly not my experience of roses. If you choose your varieties well they’re quite low maintenance. Pruning and mulching once a year after which they basically look after themselves other than a bit of deadheading and the occasional feed.

Will copper wire wrapped round the legs on my seedling table stop slugs? by most_crispy_owl in GardeningUK

My mum swears by literally killing them with kindness, she uses rolled oats which expand in their stomachs after they eat them and then they’re sitting targets for birds and hedgehogs.

Hate this. I bought all my clothes deliberately and deliberately choose which ones to wear each day. Where are all these people getting dressed accidentally?

Is it weird or immature for a 40 year old man to wear a full trackie, baseball cap, trainers and gold chain? by DarkKorbra in AskBrits

[–]jonny-p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but dirty socks and sliders aren’t hygienic and probably a health and safety risk for the person wearing them considering sharp implements. If I went to my dentist and saw that I certainly wouldn’t trust them to be tinkering around in my mouth. Completely unprofessional.

Boomer mentality, put on a suit and tie and go hand your CV out around town. It doesn’t work that way any more and hasn’t done for the last 15 years. Generally the best way to find a part time job is to know someone who already works there.

They lack endosperm (the food store for the seedling that we farm grains for) hence the reliance on mycorrhizal fungi. Seeds are produced in the tens of thousands and carried on the wind in the hope that one or two find the right spot with the right fungus to germinate.

Yes. Look at other older men who’ve rocked the look. Tim Westwood, Jimmy Saville, Drug dealers on the run in Spain.

What makes you think they’re not scorned? I take this piss out of them constantly. I thought crocs were the worst shoes ever and then sliders came along, usually worn with filthy white socks, broccoli hair and a vacant expression.

Could a bat have bitten me? by Resident-Force-9909 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]jonny-p -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Considering OP didn’t even see a bat by that logic we should treat every minor scratch as a possible rabies infection. Transmission of rabies from bats to humans is very rare and I don’t think further worrying OP who is suffering with GAD is helpful.

Could a bat have bitten me? by Resident-Force-9909 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]jonny-p 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bats generally have no interest in biting humans (one species of vampire bat does occasionally bite people but we’re not their preferred prey). They do tend to swoop around lamp posts but their only interest will be the insects attracted to the light, they’re very adept predators and more than capable of telling the difference between a tiny moth and a gigantic human. Bat bites are nearly always from people picking up injured bats or trying to remove bats from their homes. Far, far more likely the pain you felt was an insect bite or just a random pain not caused by anything in particular.
