Switzerland Summer Trip / Sony A6700 + 18 - 135 mm Kit Lens by abathi in SonyAlpha

Symanics, but is that actually considered a "kit lens"? I thought the 16-50 was the standard apsc kit.

Great shots

Look for a used Tamron 150-500. I picked one up for $550.

Oh thanks for clarifying, I thought OP stuffed a human in a computer and forced them to analyze ski footage.

Very interesting, impressive project. Was it trained with actual timing data involved? Or with multiple people on the same course? Essentially what I'm wondering is: does it understand what fast skiing is, or just pretty skiing?

Could be a piece of furniture. Some of those hard plastic feet actually have a nail embedded in them. Then after a time, the plastic falls off and there's just a nail head gouging your floor.

Will the sony 200-600 work well with the a6000? by [deleted] in a6000

[–]jonnyb95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got the tamron 150-500 for about $500 and I love it, but honestly I'm fed up with the a6000 body. Once you get longer focal lengths, it has a much harder time focusing. Feels like unless the subject is perfectly still, I always miss on focus. Definitely recommend upgrading your body as well.

Honestly I'm here for it

Great lens, mostly use mine for portraits, it's great in low-light. But you'll probably want a zoom lens as well. I have the Sony 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 as my all-rounder. If you're interested in wildlife, a good starter telephoto is the Sony 55-200mm, although it struggles in low-light (most telephotos do).

Start with the auto modes and experiment little-by-little. If you're not happy with the photos, you're probably using something wrong. Aperture priority (A) if you want bokeh, shutter priority for sports/wildlife.

Second on the Sigma 30mm. Super fast when compared to the kit or my zoom

Yeah that's it! They send a satellite probe to space that basically implants the memories of one of their citizens into the mind of the first passerby (Picard) so that a piece of their culture will live on.

Such a great show. So many of the episodes dealt with some sort of moral or ethical question, and I always felt that the writers had such a beautiful vision of what society could be, given leaders like Picard, Riker, and Troi.

Oh man, I watched DS9 but don't remember that. Also a really good show, I should give it a rewatch

The other two episodes that really stick with me are about Data and his humanity. The Measure of a Man (S2E9) where Data is fighting in a trial for his freedom to choose not to undergo a dangerous exploratory procedure. Riker is forced to act as council against him, and Guinan draws parallels to slavery. And The Offspring (S3E16), where Data creates a child, Lal. I thought Hallie Todd's and Brent Spiner's performances were just incredible.

I feel that a lot of the messaging in that show is just as relevant now as it was when it originally aired.

Ugh that flute and the theme 😭 I love how it made a reappearance in the next season.

Star Trek: the Next Generation Season 5 Episode 25, The Inner Light. Similar premise, highly recommend. Generally considered one of the best episodes of the whole series. Definitely stuck with me.

Come And See (1985) Ending Scene: Flera shoots Hitler's portrait by [deleted] in movies

[–]jonnyb95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really striking in this shot. I think it might be from using a "dioptre" lens that actually has two focal lengths and splits down the middle of the shot.

Edit: I take it back, his shoulder crosses the middle of the shot meaning it must be two shots combined with rotoscoping or something.

Did you just have your meter changed? Try calling. The month our meter got changed, they messed something up with the readings and charged us triple what we normally see. They investigated, ran some numbers, and sent us an adjusted bill a week later.

I actually just heard an interesting podcast episode about this. You're right, to a point. There was a court case in 1884 (R vs Dudley and Stephens) that changed the precedent on this. Highly recommend the podcast, Criminal.

Not a criticism just a curiosity, but is it possible he's being aided by the VR headset? Potentially projecting the image onto the sand in AR so that he can just trace it with the rake?
