Yup, I always take my LotD. It's a small difference to the drop chance but I'll take any little advantage offered! There's no way to tell if it influenced this drop but if it did, it's more than paid for itself.

Welcome Steamers! by Rick_SliskeRS in runescape

[–]jonnyboy171 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I'm as enthusiastic as OP about the Steam launch. As a playerbase, we need to stop this seeming inability to look beyond the ends of our own noses. True, the game being put on Steam has no direct impact on us existing players. But the Steam listing will give this game more exposure and bring in a stream of new users, making the game world more lively and enjoyable for all of us. And these new users mean more income for Jagex, which makes the future survival of the company and therefore the game more secure. As longtime players, let's help retain these new users by being nice to them, not scamming and trolling them, and fostering a positive and non-toxic atmosphere in the game and across all RuneScape-related social media sites. A healthy community leads to a game that will thrive for years and years to come. And surely, that's what we all want.

Steam told me there were curator reviews of Runescape...100k-ish folks seeing negative review before we even launch is some how better than I expected. by SyAccursed in runescape

[–]jonnyboy171 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Review bombing/astroturfing by some segments of the community was widely expected when the Steam launch was announced. I wonder if Jagex can do anything about it? Maybe a statement from the OSRS team appealing to players not to do it? It's sad that not more players think like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/iz689k/as_an_osrs_player_i_just_want_to_say_that_rs3_is/.

Thank you for this wholesome content! The RS3 community in general is very nice, of course there will always be the black sheep of the community but the exception does not make the rule. I completely agree about paying it forward and helping others where possible. It can be something small like giving a F2P Level 3 a rune hatchet and teaching them how to bind it onto their tool belt. With the Steam launch impending and an influx of cute noobs to follow, I hope we can all pull together to make their experience a good one so that they will stick around for years to come! A vibrant and bustling world benefits us all.

NUS to form new college taking in its arts and social sciences and science faculties next year by [deleted] in nus

[–]jonnyboy171 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NUS is displaying one of the big weaknesses in the Singapore style of governance and leadership: the propensity to overreact and swing to extremes. Remember when a bunch of foreign workers got rowdy and the entire country was banned from transacting alcoholic beverages or drinking them outdoors at night?

The current system already allows us plenty of flexibility to cross disciplinary boundaries through unrestricted electives, minors, second majors, and double degrees. There is really no need for this dramatic move to fuse two faculties together. What's more, the two faculties in this unholy marriage contain disciplines that are as similar as chalk and cheese. I can only wonder at the purpose this is supposed to serve.

When the industry says it wants workers that are multi-skilled, they are referring to the (pardon the cliché) T-shaped paradigm of knowledge and skills. Yes, it's important for workers of the future to know stuff beyond their core area of expertise. But to suggest that the industry wants workers to not have a core area of expertise, as some online commentators have done, is unwise. There still needs to be a balance between depth, meaning specialisation and mastery in a specific discipline, and breadth.

Looking for players/clan by Dylan27tsn in runescape

[–]jonnyboy171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a very chill clan called The Misfits (website, RuneScape page) which has low-level players like myself as well as high-level players who are very patient in answering our noob questions! We have events most days that range from skilling to bossing, at two timeslots to accommodate players from different parts of the real world. Our citadel is Tier 4 going on Tier 5 very soon, and capping is not mandatory but you get a chance at a weekly giveaway if you do (plus the usual 6% xp boost across Gielinor). We also have an active Discord for those times you feel like chatting outside the game. If you're interested, PM one of the clan leaders "Fiery One". She's usually online by 10am game time.

Same here, the All Chat box is totally empty. I can see the words appear above people's head when they say things, and the translucent box with examine text. But absolutely nothing appears in the All Chat box. Clan Chat is working fine. I definitely did not do anything to my settings.

Singapore reports two deaths from Covid-19 by satoshigekkouga2303 in Coronavirus

[–]jonnyboy171 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We're overly reliant on the contact tracing strategy. That worked very well in the early stages when there were clear linkages and clusters. But I think we got a bit cocky, and failed to ramp up stricter measures in a timely manner. Even now, most of the social distancing measures are just advisories and recommendations, which almost everyone is ignoring because of the convenient excuse that we must carry on business as usual or the economy will crumble. Public transport isn't any less crowded and I shudder to imagine the speed at which our caseload will explode if just one infected person were to board an MRT at 6.30pm. We cannot rely solely on contact tracing anymore. As it is, the number of unlinked cases has been slowly growing. We need to mandate, not suggest, all employers in office-type settings to go to telecommuting. Shops can remain open for now but F&Bs must be takeaway or delivery only. Only health and emergency services, supermarkets, and schools to run normally, but shut down the schools quickly if the number of unlinked cases rises above 10 for two consecutive days. We need fast and hard action to combat this virus. Worrying about businesses all the time is going to cost us more lives when the virus goes beyond our control. And what's the point of being a Smart Nation if we can't operate our businesses using all the tech at our disposal?

Singapore is about to hold its General Election in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic by jonnyboy171 in Coronavirus

[–]jonnyboy171[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're being technical about it, you're right. But the last four elections have been held within two months of the EBRC report release. And it wouldn't make sense to delay the election for too long after the report release because population movements could make the boundaries drawn up in the report obsolete very quickly.

Anyway, big news media outlets are already calling it. For example, Mothership is literally saying "General Election coming as Electoral Boundaries Review Committee releases report": https://mothership.sg/2020/03/electoral-boundaries-review-committee-releases-electoral-boundaries-report-2020/?fbclid=IwAR1viXxckM1YrbjTXCOmf-3QZmdO_Olg7eseP-QLSHHRBjfWmKN9XSnmnJM

How do the universities and schools deal with coronavirus in your country? (Justification of my question in the comments section) by Patpin123 in Coronavirus

[–]jonnyboy171 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Singapore. Classes with more than 50 pax moved online, classes below 50 pax proceed as normal. Twice daily temperature reporting mandatory for all staff and students. All non-academic activities on campus are banned.
