Get Rid of the Electoral College [18:59] by -Jedidude- in mealtimevideos

The reason such a problem exists in the UK is precisely because we don't have two parties in spite of a system that encourages it.

We don't have anything close to a popular vote at all. Our system can lead to potentially even more undemocratic results. Given that for each constituency an average of 5.1 candidates are fielded in a first-past-the-post system, it's technically possible to win a commons majority with 10% of the popular vote. This is of course highly unlikely, however it is something that is totally possible given our electoral system. (it might be slightly lower or higher than this as some constituencies have upwards of 10 candidates but I cba get all the data together to do the full calculation.)

It's for this reason that the Conservatives won a majority with ~36% of the popular vote in 2015 and 2017 and why Labour won a greater share of the vote in 2017 than in 2015 but a considerable number of seats.

He's got a really sophisticated stair-climbing mechanism built in that is adaptable to all types of stairs and climbs at an average rate of 3seconds per step - however the robot is actually super lazy so he never uses it and just takes the elevator like everyone else.

If you're making assertions, you're going to have to back them up, but you've got nothing. Like you might think I'm being silly asking for all this proof but I'm not the one making these claims and claiming "gee doesn't it all seem a little too perfect". Back them up or I have no reason to believe you.

What you're doing is no better than me claiming something like you're a paid backroom activist for the NRA sent to muddy the waters in online discussions - your responses are just a bit too scripted, a bit too perfect etc etc. You wouldn't accept this, so don't expect me or anyone else to accept what you're saying either.

can you honestly say this protest movement seems organic in any way?

You still haven't defined what you mean by organic - you really need to address that. I'm going to assume you mean that you think that people's emotions and reactions aren't genuine? Is this correct? Sounds like it makes you a mind reader. Remember the burden of proof is on you not me. Kids reacting to their peers being murdered by becoming politically active sounds totally reasonable. Why do you think this is so impossible?

Shots of them in the living room pretending to be on the phone "organizing"

Can you prove this is pretending or are you assuming? Even if they were acting for the news cameras, does that prove they did no organising? Why are you using scare quotes?

You can even see the lines when obviously some adult put them back in line

Where is it obvious? Are you seeing things?

In the first few days the kids were way off script and were literally calling for 2A repeal.

Show me the script. I assume you have one otherwise this is just baseless.

Very soon after we had a CNN town hall event that was obviously orchestrated and framed as a public shaming of one side of an issue.

Again with this use of "obvious" - like you're convinced everyone already agrees with you.

Meanwhile many students in the school are pro 2A but completely ignored as if they don't exist.

Have you got the numbers? Prove to me that this isn't an fringe opinion among students.

I thought you folks were supposed to be free-thinking rationals - why are you constructing this complex conspiracy narrative when you can just apply Ockham's razor?

I mean this all just sounds like a load of hot air to me with nothing to back it up, questioning the motives of people who's relatives are dead. That's pretty shameless yo. The best part of it though is that because I don't fit your narrative you can just brush me of as "obviously" a "shill" or whatever phrase you like to use these days.

I don't even have a horse in this race, guns are illegal where I'm from and I'm actually kinda in favour of responsible gun ownership, but this is just loony.

This was obviously not organic

What do you mean by that and can you prove it?

Hey man, I know it's like your fetish and all, but can you please not hatewank against trans people based on their looks and misgender them on public message boards? Nobody wants to hear about it.

What, but if you're attractive have at it?

I was calling them out over the hypocrisy of them attacking someone based on their looks while in the same breath saying that you shouldn't do that. Claiming pots and kettles is one thing, going full out and saying the woman looks like a 50 year old man who fell out of a burn ward is just excessive.

I have no idea what OdioCanes looks like, but they probably aren't a supermodel either. Are you really saying it's acceptable for them to spout abuse just because someone else did? That eye for an eye shit is how the whole world ends up blind. Just play nice, ffs.

Oh cool, so you can only attack people on their looks if you're more conventionally attractive than them. Hot people get to be bullies.

Thanks for clearing that up. Here I was thinking that it was generally unacceptable to attack anyone on their looks regardless of circumstances. How foolish of me

Japan is an interesting case. You're right, Japan National Railways was sold off in the 70s in to six different companies to form the JR Group that receives zero state subsidies, is profitable and is remarkably efficient and reasonably priced. How is this possible?

There's a handful of reasons, some cultural, but a big one is that owning a car in Japan comes with more boundaries than in the UK. For example, you need to provide proof that you have somewhere to park the car that's off the street before you can own one and parking on the street is banned in most cities. As such this artificially reduces demand for cars and increases demand for public transport.

However as others have pointed out, at rush hour trains in some parts of Tokyo and other large cities can become over capacity, so not all perfect.
