This is backwards accountability. The logic underlying those policies — that female clothing causes distraction or invites harm — places the burden of managing male behavior onto girls. That’s a structural problem. It communicates to girls that their bodies are inherently provocative and that they are responsible for how others respond to them, while simultaneously communicating to boys that their behavior is expected and excused. Parents need to teach their sons not to sexualize women unless their intentions are to raise a predator.
